Kyunki: One thousand days of fortitude

It is five years now and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is still trundling along on Star Plus. People of the Virani bloodline have died, been reborn, have had babies, got married, divorced, murdered, stolen, cheated, charmed, lost their memories, lost their fortunes, made their fortunes and done everything else they possibly can. And evidently they will continue to do so for another thousand episodes or so, if Shailja Kejriwal, creative director, Star Plus is to be believed. Phew!

April 13th is D-Day for the Kyunki team as they celebrate their 1,000 episode. And to make this a special event all the characters who have ever acted in this mega serial so far will put in an appearance on an hour long special on April 14. Not only that even Ekta Kapoor will share the scenes with them. The motley bunch of Virani bahus, four generations of them to be exact will grill Ekta Kapoor about why their characters have turned out the way they have. Of course no special episode is complete without a contest and viewers can look forward to one on this special day. The shoot for this extravaganza begins next week.

Will She, won't She?
Nandini has been in coma for the past few weeks and people are speculating if she will ever come out of it in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Her reel and real life husband, Hiten Tejwani let out that she would recover. But he would say no more and became all cagey. "I don't know what the track will be," he said. With him and Tanya getting close in the soap one wonders whether it will go the Basera way or will Nandini quit half-way through and leave the field clear for Tanya. After all, Karan is hers for keeps, in real life.

Different Strokes
Usha Bachani is loving every moment of her 12-year-old career in the TV industry. Coloured lenses, elaborate hair dos, funky jewellery and beautiful saris — Usha loves to play up each of her characters. In a short wig in her latest show Sinndoor in which she plays Pamela Singhania. "I play this rich socialite who wants to bring down the self respect and dignity of Kavita Raiyzyada played by Tanvi Azmi. She is always trying to manipulate people and situations to humiliate Kavita."

She dons a jooda in Kanch on DD. She plays Miss Sharma, a khadoos, stuck up, single woman in Remix. And last but not the least she has replaced the character of Arundati chachi in Kkusum who is always plotting against Kkusum. She gets to do comedy as Ratna Pathak Shah's sister in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai and she will also be seen playing a woman whose husband has an extramarital affair in the daily soap Miillee.
