On Sunday, there was a sponsored hike to raise money for autistic children, called the "Rainbow Trek". More than 300 students, aged 16-18, participated in the Rainbow Trek.
The Rainbow Trek happens every year to raise money for a not-for-profit organization called the Rainbow Project. The Rainbow Project works to improve educational facilities for autistic children in Hong Kong. It also trains caregivers of autistic children (teachers, parents and helpers) and provides speech and occupational theory at a reduced rate.
The Rainbow Trek is a 50 or 25km hike over Hong Kong's hills. Students complete this stretch in a single day. Many students were hikers, while others were fundraisers. I also took part in this trek as a hiker. I hiked 25km. I thought I'd post about my experiences here because Aap ki antara is a show about autism. I'm not the fittest person around, yet I still decided to hike because I felt it was for a good cause. We did two training walks of 25km each, I could only attend the second one. I couldn't finish it, because my team member fell ill. I became very worried. I had already taken money from many people and if I couldn't finish the walk I would have felt very bad.
Finally, the day of the trek arrived. We all hiked either 25 or 50km with only a few injuries. It was very difficult and it pushed me to the limit. My legs and back are still sore! But I feel it's worth it. I can't describe the sense of satisfaction you get when you finish. I was very, very happy.
I'm not sure how much money we raised totally, we might know in a week's time. I'll then post an update. You know what, my first donation was actually from a young boy who is a fan of Aapki Antara. So this show actually helped me collect donations too. đ
