Psychologically speaking he is youngest and may be mothered and comfoted both by his mom and Anita and was never closer to his dad.
So may be he is more comfortable with girls who are older than him and motherly like Simi is for her siblings and that is what might have attracted Abhi more among other things.
I also want Simi to feel more and more comfortable with him like Abhi being her best friend first with whom she can share anything without being scared including her venerable side that Simi refuse to show to others except her dad.
Abhi may bemodest with Simi as he does not want her to feel rejected by men while he had so many girls following him.
I don't see Abhi has needing mothering. I see him as a pretty confident and secure guy. When he sees Simi for the first time in the mandir, he found her interesting enough that he started at her for a while. However he did not feel the need to approach her and ask her out - he was not attracted to her romantically - he just found her interesting. When he first took an interest in her it was out of a desire to help her. I think it was the day he realized whom she was that he started to find himself growing fonder of her (remember the scene when he was on the bed looking at her pictures?), but he is not in love yet, but the more time he spends with her, the more likely it's going to happen
A guy who is comfortable with himself, has the ability to look behind superficialities can embrace a girl who is older than him in his life. Simi might be older than him, but developmentally in terms of a relationship, she is younger than him. Together, they look the same age (I would hate it for him to look younger than her and I know the directors have been taking that approach) and I think that will actually build the attraction for both them. It is not clear how hold Abhi is in relation to Simi. I am guessing he is in his mid-20s (about 24-25) and she is approaching 30. So about 5 years (right?).
I do hope you are right about your comment that Abhi was trying to be modest to Simi - it would make him all the more likeable if he is not arrognant or boastful about how popular he is with girls. It would make it all the more wonderful for Simi to know that she didn't just get a guy, but was able to win it over while in competition with several attractive girls. Talk about a self-esteem booster.
