Rajan Shahi is on a roll. Just two years after setting up his own production house, Director's Kut, this director-turned-producer is responsible for two of the biggest hits on TV ' Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.
Rajan is said to be a hands-on man, not only administering and managing his company, but also playing a pivotal role in pre-production, shooting and post-production. He has a long association with the Hindi film industry as his maternal grandfather was veteran actor P Jairaj
As a youngster, Rajan assisted Gulzar, Lekh Tendon and Sanjay Khan; he later joined director-producer Ravi Rai and was actively involved in famous serials like Sailaab, Thoda Hai Thode Ki Jaroorat Hai. Rajan directed his first independent show Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi in 1999 and has directed hit shows like Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, Hamare Tumhare, Rishtey, Saat Phere, Virasaat and Saathi Re.
In 2007, Rajan launched his own production house and turned producer with Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai on Star Plus, which created history of sorts when it ran five days a week for an hour for nearly three months last year. He followed up with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (also on Star Plus) and Maat Pitah Ke Charno Mein Swarg on Colours.
Bidaai and Yeh Rishta... have been the top rated shows for a while now and have recently started airing seven days a week, another first. Rajan says, "It's a great feeling to see the company grow with two successful shows. The objective is to work on shows and have one man monitoring to avoid the chaos between the conceptions and delivering of the product. The company follows the thumb rule of giving the channel a product, which is conceived, monitored and delivered by technicians who have excellent experience. I am thankful to audiences and Star Plus for giving the opportunity and support for both the shows."
