gp, The fireworks we see here are professionally staged, and set off very far from houses and other structures.

When they are handled by amateurs, and the smoke is all around, and they even hit against the walls of your house, sometimes landing inside the windows, it becomes very dangerous.

The nonstop noise of the crackers is not only annoying & scary for the kids & animals but for the old age ppl whose heart is weak, for those who are sick & need rest but find hard to get it because of the continuous noise of the fireworks.

I concede on that--I really do not know about the fireworks in India, as I mentioned before.

I see from what you all have been saying that it is risky, dangerous, and just too much.

I would also like to see Zee one day talk about giving during Diwali to those who need it (an act of kindness--this I know from all my trips to India does not happen all that often as it could) or perhaps other more meaningful eco-friendly things. I know it's just a show--it was just strange to see this in the show and see the lead-up to that, which was Antara being disturbed by the loud sounds, given her sensory development.

Look Aditya and Vidya, whether you like it or not, are greatly inconvenienced by the fireworks. I bet you last few years, they joined in the revelry. But it is so hard to dictate over such matters, especially in a place as large and bureaucratic as India.

Why not talked a bit more about wedding costs, dowries, etc? Fireworks??? Sorry, I'm not much of a sympathizer.

i agree with u...last year they might have burnt up a few fire crackers themselves. but then i will say that u go thru something u might come to a realization. that happens to be the case of adi-vidya. im sure they must have never realized the discrimination faced by autistic kids till an autistic member of their family did. thats when they raised their voice against. so if they have woken up now to the cracker problem its good they are trying to do something abt it now rather than continuing to keep quiet. we cannot expect to change the world in one day...so lets have the small things done(reducing pollution thru crackers) before moving on to bigger stuff.

I completely get Adi-Vidya's dilemma and difficulty in society. And, yes, when things happen to you, you understand some things better, as you mentioned.

The only point I was making was how quickly Adi-Vidya realized the eco-unfriendliness of fireworks, only after they had issues with the SOUNDs o e fireworks. That's all.

Here in the US, we are watching the episode where Vidya leaves to take care of her mom, and no one is there to supervise the play. I love how Abhi points out that if Naani's health is important, the play is also for Antara. Felt bad when the neighbours were so rude to Vidya and told her to remove Antara from the courtyard...

Now that my son is in our lives, I notice stuff I never did before. Every time I light a lamp, I have to remember to keep it out of his reach. Still, when we visited relatives, he knocked a stand over which had candles on it, and then he showed me his finger with the hardened candle wax on it, and ran away so no one could remove it. He will leave altar lamps alone, seems to know they are sacred, but any other candle is fair game. Diwali is really a time to be alert.
