for the past few years, a new era of cinema - has evolved, actually not new but different something that is apllauded and appreciated much mmore than in yesterday times, when films were regarded as 'ART FILMS' only and they failed to gather a large chunk of audiences, but now things have changed, if we look at the previous years, filmmakers have started making films which are much appreciated by multiplex audiences thus...they make money too😛 now this era has defintely caught the eye of the people. many movies have worked just on the count of multiplexes and termed a hit.. means even if they didn't do well overall in cinemas- they recover their prices and just make bonus profits from MULTIPLEX cinema only. this is called 'multiplex era cinema' here are some movies which were not that hyped and having big budgets but they made profits in multiplexes and were considered hits👏
Ek Hasina Thi - 2004 (Thriller)

Bheja Fry (Comedy)

Two obvious ones are A Wednesday and Rock On. Not sure how profitable Oye lucky, Lucky Oye and Khosla Ka Ghosla were. How about Mithya? Was it a financial success?

Khosla ka Ghosla and Oye Lucky Lucky Oye did well commercially - I think for their budget they were above average earners.

Mithya though didn't do well.

I also think Dil Chahta Hai was the beginning of the "multiplex film" even though there weren't that many multiplexes around back then.
