Harshdeep: A musician in the making

Every New Year brings with it a desire of getting new opportunities, a hope of new dreams coming true, an urge of life that is full of happiness and satisfaction. This year God has been very generous to singer Harshdeep by making her long-lived dream come true. He blessed her with an opportunity to sing with India's best music director, A R Rehman, for his forthcoming film RANG DE BASANTI.

RANG DE BASANTI, the most awaited film of 2006, features Harshdeep's song. "It is not a song. In fact it is an extract from Japji Sahib, the Sikh's Morning Prayer. I consider it an honour to sing "Ik Onkaar". Since childhood I have been singing it. We recorded it at 4 am. It was a very special moment. It is believed that early morning is the time of God and I actually felt God standing next to me and making me sing," tells Harshdeep.

When asked about her experience of working with Rehman, the young talented girl says, "I have always admired Mr. Rehman's music. He is a legend. Singing with him was like appearing for the board exams. I was excited as well as nervous. But to my astonishment, the moment I entered into the recording studio and began to sing, everything went by as smooth as an ice-cream."

Harshdeep is a trained classical singer and is also learning piano. She wants to dive deep into the ocean of music and explore all it has to offer. Singing is just one dimension of her musical personality. Composing music is one of the other dimensions. "I don't want people to know me just as a singer. I want the world to know me as a complete Musician. I love each and every aspect of music and don't want to stay untouched from any one of it," responds Harshdeep.

She is presently busy composing songs for her forthcoming album which will be released this year.

Apart from music, her interest also lies in studies. Harshdeep is in the second year of college pursuing a specialized course in Audio Production.

RANG DE BASANTI is a youthful film that claims to awaken a generation. Though the film looks promising, not much can be said about it until the film releases on the 26th of January. But one thing is for sure that Harshdeep has accomplished her talent and promises to go a long way.
