The serial starts with a voice over(I think Om Puri) saying that there are different worlds within this world and there is one world where the journey of soul stops and the struggle of the stomach begins. Then the hunger of stomach spreads and controls the heart and mind. Then in such a world someone dares to dream. What will you call such a person; naive, innocent or resolute. You might call anything but in Koyna village people call her Laali.
This is Laali. One who never loses hope and never gives up. She is not affected by what others think of her. Like when during hte Chatt Puja, the village women chide her for being a lower caste. She as a matter of factly says that Chatt Mata doesnt know she is lower caste.(Superb acting by Ratan, potrayal of innocence and confidence at the same time.)
