After 3 weeks of back to back flop films, a masala -full Wanted was exactly what the doctor had prescribed for the entertainment-starved audiences. Wanted was promoted aggressively across all mediums and had so much of hype surrounding its release that an outstanding opening was predictable. Riding high on the star-power of Salman Khan, who looked fresh and danced amazingly like never before, the slickly shot action sequences and fast paced narrative did not disappoint the audiences like most big banner films in the recent past did.
The opening on Friday was huge especially at single screens. At select centers the crowd was so uncontrollable that police had to take charge. Much against popular trade belief that Wanted is only a single-screen film, the film did decent business at most multiplexes as well with the audiences in the hall reacting to Salman's antics as wildly as the single-screen junta. While most films show a slump in the business Monday onwards, it was exactly the opposite in case of Wanted. With Eid falling on Monday, the film won an added audience.
The other release Dil Bole Hadippa coming from the Yash Raj banner had nothing new. Other than spirited performances from Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor, the film had all regular elements of Yash Raj feel-good candyfloss from Punjab's sarso-ke-khet to Indian culture sermons. While it got a decent opening catering to the family audiences, business is two steps behind Wanted . Like Wanted , this one too had a rise in footfalls on Monday due to Eid holiday. But the question is will it be able to survive beyond the first week?
