Do you think voting is divided by region?

I am looking to start a discussion here without meaning to offend anyone. Its about how the voting is taking place in all reality based shows on TV.

Going by the results so far, I am getting more and more convinced that there are very few people who actually vote based on performance. The irony is, there are many people here on India Forum who probably would vote in a fair manner but are unable to, being out of India.

Lets start with Sandeep. He is the only guy from Rajasthan. Chances are people from that state will vote for him or not vote at all. In Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, they actually tell you what percentage of votes came from where. So I am not saying whether its right or wrong but just an observation. Similarly Ravi perhaps has a lot of supporters in U.P. In fact he comes from a royal family (he said it during Fame Gurukul) so he probably has a decent base in his hometown.

Lets look at Meenal. When she cleared the piano round, she thanked the junta and especially mentioned Indore. Same for Antara who thanked her village folks. A humble village in Bengal must be really excited to see a star being born from their midst so they will try their best to push her through. However if there was no Antara in the contest, would these people vote? Will they ever vote for Meenal over Antara even if she outshines everyone at the gala?

Many of us agreed that it was unfair that there were no auditions held in South India. I share the thought. There are loads of talented people down there. So 2 things can happen, either people down south are annoyed and could not care less who wins this contest OR if they ever vote, they want to make sure Karunya comes up.

Panna, Amey, Sagar all have a slight disadvantage here. They are from Mumbai. Their votes are going to be divided and not just that. Mumbai is a big city and people are not generally over awed by glamor. People may not be as passionate about getting someone to win unless it is someone from their immediate vicinity. Before someone cites Abhijeet Sawant, keep in mind that II1 was the first time something like this happened in India. No one was sure what the outcome would be and how big this winner really becomes. Now we all know so the stakes are higher.

On similar lines, I think Jolly and Monali will perhaps be appealing to the same crowd. No prizes for guessing that Yashashree and Neha both have loyal supporters without any competition.

The next gala would be interesting because Jolly wont be there. I have a scary feeling that Meenal might get the axe. Lets hope not. Sandeep will surely be in the top 5 and only one between Amey and Panna will make it, most likely Panna.

All the above are purely my observation and thoughts. I hope you all comment on it with the same spirit. There is no offense meant to anyone and I am truly grateful to all of you out there who are voting purely for the performance and talent.

gr8 write-up....but then all of this sounds nice in writing but in reality it sadly doesnt happen.
The girls chacnes look very minimal simply because the majority of viewers will end up voting for boys.
As 4 the boys, everyone knows who is the msot deserving but like you said, regional voting takes place. It's not only regional voting, there are some ppl who give sympathy votes, some who give votes based on how god looking the contestant is. Can we help it-NO!

Thts the fun of reality TV- thre's lot of masala and its a real life soap opera...you jsut have to consider it like a game and not take it seriously.

I know my fav. contestant, Amey, has very little chacnes of winning despite being one of the favs. of teh judges. I've lsot all hope in the public after they've voted out Anuj, Jyotsna, Dilpreet...

For me II is just a game and nothing else. It's a money making machine not a talent hunt contest. And trust me, if u look at II frm thsi point of view all the ongoings on the show hurt much less.

Stupendous observation. I would like to second this thought b'coz the fact of the matter is that Indian voters' decision gets influenced by various factors like geography and demography. I would not like to get into the geography part as you've covered almost all the valid points but would definitely like to state about the demographic factors. There can be ctaegories like

1. Teenagers who look for X factor more than anything else.

2. Then we have 20 something group that looks for music and x factor. Not just X factor. Music is equally important to them.

3. There are 30 somethings who would look for pure music and overall personality (not just x factor) but it would be music that matters most to them.

These are the factors that influence the voting trends in our country. The irony is that music gets lost in the bargain.

👏 👏 Very well written.

I agree with you Maka. Voting is definitely divided by regions. And why not? When people are given the right to vote as many times as they want..........what can be done? Only thing we can do is blame and curse this faulty system of voting. Makers of this show have nothing to do with real talent; all they are interested in is making money. They are using these aspiring young talented kids and playing with their future.

And I agree that over all girls get fewer votes than boys. Probably b'coz maximum voting is done by young, college going girls. I think that's why a cutest one gets more votes than a good singer.

yea....this is nothing but another K-soap in a different avtaar. Only difference is that Ekta uses fictional cahracters and plays around with them and here the viewers with every SMS play with around with the career of some talented individual.

Thanks for replying back guys.
Btw, I just read the updates for SRGMP. This regional debate is pretty hot there and the show has become a big showdown between all the people. 😕
I hope and pray that Sony does not reach such a situation at any time with II2.

Great points. I wouldn't be surprised if the voting was divided by region. It defintely had an effect in the piano rounds. Both Neha & Dilpreet competed together and both are from Delhi. Right from the start, the channel clearly promoted Neha more. I'm sure Neha got more votes from her hometown simply because she was well-known.

I hope Sony doesn't reach the same situation either. But I have a feeling II2 may try to 'outshine' the recent happenings in SRGMP. Viewers are upset but the TRPs are high. The producers & channel heads are probably thrilled regardless of what viewers think.
