Did Prakash Raj really deserve the national award for best actor?
After following the actor's life for many years, my thinking is a loud no.
Prakash if the reports are right is fighting a divorce battle. He could not be a role model for all other actors in the country.
He has played every other type of character in the book. Comeedian, villain, supporting actor and lately hero. He won best supporting actor for his flawless portrayal of Karunanidhi in Iruvar. Then his choices of roles was very poor and his career never took off. Somewhere in between, he decided there were bigger bucks in Telugu movies, and made it in Tollywood. Then he became a very good distributor and any movie he touched had marketing genius behind it.
Recently he bagged Trisha, the top actress in the south as her father in "Abhiyum naanum." Over the years Prakash Raj has done a lot of experimentation in commercial films and been a big success.
Prakash Raj may be a good commercial actor, but certainly not of national substance. Kamalahasan did Dashavataram, 10 different roles. Magnificent. There must have been a lot of other takers as well.
Last year Priyamani went on to get the best actress award. What has she done since then? She went to commercial films and tried to make big bucks. The lessons were learnt after the national awards. In an interview among many, she candidly said one of the judges was trying to promote her for the best actress award, what would Priya say to that. Is the I & B ministry for sale?
A national award should go to a person who shows better acting ability than all the others in the nation. Did Prakash Raj fit that bill? Is the information ministry and broadcasting ministry doing the right thing?
