If she was really autistic, it would not be entirely possible to direct her, or ask her to perform on cue. My son was all set to play a small role in his school concert, but when he saw me in the audience, he went berserk, wanting to come to me, and had to be removed from the auditorium. It might be possible for someone with Asperger's (very mild form of autism) to act such a role.
The way they showed all the kids in the clinic swaying from side to side was also rather stylized and contrived. Autistic kids are rarely so quiet, and they each have their own repetitive rituals. Plus they don't sit quietly in a corner so mom and dad can argue, haha!
