Goad Bharai is done as a part of the engagement ceremony

It is exactly the same sort of ceremony as 'Shagun' in Gujarat....

It is the female version of the Tilak ceremony of the boy..in which the bride-to be gets gifts etc.

It is done in UP, Rajasthan Bihar and MP... basically the . so called heartland of northern Hindu culture.....

This ceremony is the same as 'Chunni-Chadhan' of Pujabis. or Shagun of Gujaratis..... it is just called as Goad-bharai..

The term 'Goad-bhairi' literally just means filling the lap with gifts...so there is NO meaning in the term that associates it simply with being pregnant... ..You can fill the lap with gifts at anytime...

it is only associated with pregnancy because of certain cultures not using that term for engagement ceremony but only for the gifts given at time of pregnancy

Allthough the term 'Godbhari rahi' is literally translated to believe that the women has children.. it can be meant as that she also has all the things she desires for ever - good clothes, good jewellery, good make up.. good food etc
