'Kaminey' Sets Off a Trend
By MovieTalkies.com, 20 August 2009
The phenomenal success of Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Kaminey' has critics and other filmmakers finally on the same page. The film has been praised by both filmmakers and critics alike. And the public too seems to be lapping it up and having a blast.

But what the film has done, is to go back to the Mumbai underworld, which has been a fascinating topic for filmmakers in the last two decades particularly. It was filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma who really took this genre to new heights with his film 'Satya' and the character of Bhiku Mhatre and followed it up with his masterpiece, 'Company'. But the there was yet another movie made on the underworld even before Verma made his movies, which is often forgotten. The movie is Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 'Parinda' which starred Anupam Kher, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar. Of course, Bhardwaj himself has indulged in this genre in two of his previous films, 'Maqbool' and 'Omkara', but none were quite as explosive as 'Kaminey'. He seems to have almost discovered a new idiom with this movie, its lingo and the Dhan Te Nan number. He has used all the tried and tested formulae and given it an edgy twist. Just like 'Parinda' was one of the first explosive films on the underworld, followed by so many illustrious others, each more pathbreaking than the first, 'Kaminey' too seems to have set a benchmark where gangster films are concerned.

I am soooo happy that critics and filmmakers are on the same page!😆😆
That's very rare these days!😆😆😆
