Sony's PS3 Slim cuts prices

A model presents the new PS3 Slim in Hong Kong

Mumbai: After months of rumours and anticipation, Sony has introduced a revamped, slimmer version of the PlayStation 3, raising its hard drive to 120 gigabytes from 80, and lowering the price by about $100 worldwide.

Sony has also cut prices on existing models by 20 per cent in India, until stocks last. The old PlayStation 3 80 GB is now priced at Rs 19,990, and will be bundled with two free games: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and GT5 Prologue.

The PS3 Slim, which is approximately 33 per cent smaller and 36 per cent lighter, is expected to be released internationally in September at $299 (Rs 14,642 appox).

Atiyendra Bose, Country Manager for Sony told Digit's online portal that they are targeting a launch for the PS3 Slim some time in November.

"Once the current lot of 80GB PS3 units are sold, only the 120GB PS3 Slim will be available in the Indian market," he was quoted as saying.

In India, the PS3 Slim will be priced at the same amount as the old 80GB PS3; approximately Rs 20,000.

Sony made the official announcement concerning PS3 Slim at Gamescom on Tuesday. The event, held in Cologne, Germany, is widely regarded as the biggest show for interactive entertainment in Europe.
