Before I write any further let me state that I like Ismail Darbar and Debojit both. I hope Hemachandra/Debojit wins the contest. I do not like Vinit/HR.

We watched the Kawwali special in US last night. Ismail Darbar had no right to leave the show in huff after Debojit got low rating from the mentors. He DID NOT do justice to the song he selected (or ID selected for him). He went besura multiple times, left taans incomplete and the worst part was last "yeh ishq ishq hai". It didn't even sound similar to the original one.

Ismail Darbar has penchant for selecting difficult songs for his students. It was Nihira who could do justice to such songs. Debojit is clearly not in the same league. Either ID should have selected a more suitable song or should have accepted the rating co-mentors gave. It made no sense at all for him to be frustrated when in past he has been very strict with his students when they made any mistakes.

More than that in past few episodes he has been in contest with HR to praise and suck up to Vinit. Same story with Himani. Don't know if all this is scripted or not. But praising the contestants when they deserved is one thing and going out of your way to compete with their mentors to praise them is another. On one hand he said to Himani "uparwala kare tu hi final jite" and on other hand getting upset when Nihira gets eliminated makes no sense at all. Being emotional is one thing but being a fool is other.

I was surprised to see Jatin Pandit giving 10/10 to Himani's "der na ho jaye". This is the same Jatin who commented (and rightly so) on Joyita's "mohe panghat pe" as it sounded like a koThewali's song. Himani's "der na ho jaye" was no different. It lacked all the niceties of the original song. I wouldn't be surprised if Himani really gets eliminated next week.

Overall I found Hemachandra's performance the best yesterday although I personally don't quite like that song. I don't even want to comment on Vinit's song who tried to copy Mohd Rafi and failed miserably.

Nicely written. I liked it. AS is really A-HOLE. Both AS and HR have been unfair to DB. And as of now I have seen Nihira is the best.

Dear rare2005,

First of all, your article is very nice, everybody has thier own temperament. I think ID should not have agreed to be judge of this show in the first place. He is not cut out for all that is happening in the name of a singing competition. Honestly speaking I am happy both, Id and Nihira are out of this farce. I would not like to comment upon ID is back, bcz I do not know about it.

Though I am not an expert in music but I am an die hard fan of Indian music. With all the experience which I have gained through listening great compositions from our Great MD's and sung by great singers like Kishore da, Mihd rafi, Lataji, Ashaji, and the list goes endless, I think though the song sung by Debo in Qwali round was difficult but I don't agree he sung it very well. Selecting a difficult song is one thing and singing it to perfection is another thing. Most of the time when he was singing he was just reading there was not feeling in the song. Let me be very clear to all, though I am a fan of Hemu but if he sings wrong I don't give him my precious vote blindly. To me Himani also didn't sung well. Only Hemu sung well amongst all. But he was also not perfect. But then this is just my opinion. you are free to disagree. Most of the time when Debu sings, something is always missing. I respect him as he has reached so far in life with great hardships. I am sorry If I had hurt anyone feelings

No, its ok, to each his own. The fact of the matter remains, that this song cannot be sung by any one person, bcz originally too, as I said, it has 5 main singers and a back up chorus. well, the singers are no less than, Rafi saab, Mannda, Ashaji taking taan after taan. Debo's taans felt incomplete bcz, even in original song there are hardly few pure taans, sung by one singer(these were redered well by Debo),it is infact a sequence, where one takes up where the other leaves the taan. so it is just not possible of anybody to sing this song single handedly.

I would please not like to comment on the choice of this song, bcz ID knows what he is doing.
