'Cut!', shouts Idol contestant

Sapana Patil

It has never happened before… in fact it's not supposed to happen on a reality show. Yet, it happened on Indian Idol 2.

It was like Varun Badola going blank and asking for a chance to re-shoot his performance at the semi-finals in Nach Baliye. Only this time, Panna Gill was allowed this favour by SET EVP (Executive Vice President) and business head Tarun Katial, who permitted a re-shoot of his performance.

Apparently, when Panna was shooting for the first gala round (telecast yesterday) on Saturday, he called out 'cut' in the middle of his performance. This infuriated Katial so much that he came down to the stage from the editing studio (where he monitors the goings on) and yelled at Gill.

According to sources, Katial was heard saying, "This is a serious show. This is not some film shooting that you ask for a cut." It seems he was so enraged at the contestant that Gill stood a chance of being expelled from the contest. When contacted, Gill explained, "When the audience started clapping, I couldn't hear the background music, and lost track of the song. I got so confused that I couldn't sing further. It was just god's grace and Mr Katial's generosity that I got a chance to sing again." Before the gala rounds are shot, all contestants are given enough time to practise with the background music. Hence, not being able to perform to something he had rehearsed could be contested as a genuine cause for complaint. About allowing the re-shoot, Katial, for his part, said, "There was a technical problem!"

Oh my god...........this is really a big news. How can they give him another chance like that? If not being able to hear background score was a problem for Panna then it must have been same for everyone.

Well though it is unfair to perform for a second time on reality television, but I would like to add that though such a big incident took place (Panna received yellings for this too!!) when you see Panna's performance ,it seems hardly anything took place!!

If it was any other participant, he/she would have been shattered by this incident and couldn't have been able to perform his/her best.

Full marks to Panna for giving such a nerve-racking performance despite such a controversy and holding his nerves when no one else could have!

his nerves would relaxed when he was given a second chance? He got a chance, an opportunity to undo his mistakes....tht would actually help calm him down, no make him more nervous

I hada feeling tht something was amiss...well it was the re-take tht did the trick 4 him...its actually sony's fault not panna's . They (sony) shdnt be doing tht...it actually adds to panna's woes n brings him mroe criticism.

C'mon, of course its unfair on the other contestants but this is their 1st gala and Panna got punishment from Mr Katial in form of yellings and embarassment in front of more than a thousand people and the threat of being kicked out of the competition.

Can you imagine yourself giving such a performance if such an incident would have shattered you??

Hats off to you Panna!!
