'Goblet of Fire wins a Golden Tomato Award
RottenTomato.com has awarded 'Goblet of Fire' with the Golden Tomato award for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film of 2005 - an award which 'Prisoner of Azkaban' also won in 2004. 'Goblet of Fire' obtained 89% positive reviews, with runners-up getting 82% positive for Star Wars and 80% positive for Serenity.

Quote:
In his fourth year at Hogwarts, our young wizard-in-training Harry Potter is set to compete in the granddaddy of all tournaments -- the Triwizard Cup, where competing schools gather in a not-so-friendly competition for bragging rights. But danger lurks behind the scenes. Eleanor Ringel Gillespie of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution called "Goblet" "indisputably the best movie in the franchise thus far," while Carrie Rickey of the Philadelphia Inquirer proclaimed it to be "the most fun and the most fraught with conflict." Where will the next one in the series land in 2007? Stay tuned.

Matthew Lewis talks school, money & friends
The Yorkshire Post has a new interview with Matthew Lewis, who plays Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films. Amongst other things he talks about going back to school after his GCSE's.

Quote:
"I didn't want to go back to sixth form – that's just because I don't like school – but my parents convinced me. They explained how it was for my my own good and I listened to them. I think I could have done better at my GCSEs, but things have been quite fractured.

You do a stream of work, then you are at school and sometimes you end up doing work at school you have already done, and vice versa. But the quality of teaching is very good, I think really it was more me finding difficulty with keeping up with both sides."

Quote:
"I am a fan of the [Harry Potter] books, and when I first read them through it doesn't really register, and then at the end you start thinking 'wow, that's going to be really fun to do'."

Quote:
"I get to see the money and maybe I see a little bit too much of it, but I try and save and invest as much as I can. I spend too much money on games and DVDs, and I am looking at a new TV as well. I think I probably spend too much on electronics."

The rest of the piece can be read here.

HP Fan Trips covered in 'Muggles and Magic'

Posted by CHEESER
Source: HPANA

George Beahm's recent book Muggles and Magic contains an entire chapter about HP Fan Trips, covering the 2004 and 2005 trips in detail and including several pictures by Catherine Collins, who went on the trips and works for various fan sites. Several of the 2006 tours are already more than 50% full.

Here's some updated news about the trips:

HP Fan Trips 2006 bookings past 50%

January 11, 2006 -- HP Fan Trips announced today that several of the 2006 HP Fan Trips tours are already more than 50% full.

"We believe this success is due to the exciting and exclusive opportunities HP Fan Trips offers Harry Potter fans," said Jeff Guillaume, one of HP Fan Trips' organizers and webmaster of Harry Potter fan site HPANA.com. "One of the staple characteristics of these tours is our ability to feature activities and locations that are not generally open to individuals and smaller groups."

While there are many look-alike packages on the market, HP Fan Trips is the only program which includes the actual train featured in the Harry Potter movies and offers other exclusive elements to create the premiere Harry Potter "fan experience" tour. In the latest publication of Muggles and Magic by George Beahm, HP Fan Trips was singled out as the "package of choice" for Harry Potter fans. It has also been highlighted by respected travel guides in the New York Times, Frommer's and Fodors.

"Fans can only be assured to receive the quality and exclusive experiences which have become a hallmark of the HP Fan Trips programs when they book with us," said Jeannie Barresi, owner of Beyond Boundaries Travel, the official operator of the tours.

Another "budget" Harry Potter-themed trip was recently announced, causing some confusion in the online fandom. While earnest in intent, the misrepresentation of the use of the Hogwarts Express troubled HP Fan Trips' operators and even the owner of the train itself.

HP Fan Trips is the only Harry Potter-themed tour that offers rides on Olton Hall #5972, the train featured in the movies HP Fan Trips is the only Harry Potter-themed tour renting out Edinburgh Castle to host a private party HP Fan Trips is the only Harry Potter-themed tour that includes limited edition wands for fans HP Fan Trips is the only Harry Potter-themed tour which has exclusive use for two nights of the entire hotel in Glencoe where cast and crew of Goblet of Fire stayed
  • HP Fan Trips is the only Harry Potter-themed tour created by true fans, for true fans

Guests from previous years have rated these trips as an exceptional value. MaryAnn from California wrote: "We were actually surprised at all we received for the tour price." Another happy fan reported: "It was worth every penny."

Now in its third year, HP Fan Trips continues to lead the "fan tour" experience space, tailoring its programs based directly on feedback from participants. Highlights for 2006 include a ride on the Olton Hall #5972 steam engine and carriages used in all of the Potter films, as well as an exclusive magical banquet and party at Edinburgh Castle, where JK Rowling launched the sixth book with great fanfare. HP Fan Trips is also reserving the entire hotel used by cast and crew in Glencoe (the Highlands) for 3 of the tour programs. Fans can take part in an exciting drawing for the chance to stay in the actual rooms used by Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy).

IMDb sasses Rupert, 'Potter' sites

Posted by CHEESER
Source: HPANA

Movie site IMDb took a swipe at Harry Potter fan sites today, lamenting the results of a poll which places Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint just behind Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal in their "Best Supporting Actor" category:

It seems that Harry Potter fan sites are sending quite a few of their visitors to vote in our annual "Best of" and "Worst of" polls, placing noted thespian Rupert Grint in 2nd place for Best Supporting Actor, with Jake Gyllenhaal just ahead of him (hey, we like Ron W. too, but come on!). Ah well, that's what you get when you invite thousands and thousands of people to vote in your Best and Worst Polls, sometimes the best really are the best and sometimes, well...
