Potter fans take over IMDb polls

We asked you last week to vote on your favorite movies and actors of 2005 at IMDb, and the results were astonishing. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was catapulted into first place (or close to) in almost every category - including Best Animated Feature (good job, guys)! It looks like IMDb has now removed the film from inappropriate categories. From the Internet Movie Database's homepage:

It seems that Harry Potter fan sites are sending quite a few of their visitors to vote in our annual "Best of" and "Worst of" polls, placing noted thespian Rupert Grint in 2nd place for Best Supporting Actor with Jake Gyllenhaal just ahead of him (hey, we like Ron W. too, but come on!). Ah well, that's what you get when you invite thousands and thousands of people to vote in your Best and Worst Polls, sometimes the best really are the best and sometimes, well...

Thanks to everyone who wrote in!

Italian HBP fans get novel early
Salani, the Italian book publisher, isn't happy--but eager Potter fans definitely were thrilled. Several book stores throughout Rome, Italy, and surrounding areas released the books a few hours early in order to shut down before the holiday. Salani is very upset with this behavior and had this to say:

"It's true. There are some people who have betrayed the pact, and so measures will be taken against them," it said, explaining that guilty stores could lose their right to sell Harry Potter books. "We stipulated a written accord with bookshops on the sales ban," it said. "We feel it is our duty to protect the relationship of trust we have with our readers and to defend their rights with regard to promises made, especially where children are concerned," it added.

Full story here with a picture of excited fans in one Italian bookstore.

According to a report released today by Reuters and Nielsen's BookScan, the sixth adventure beat out every other book that was on sale for the entire year.

HBP sales totaled 7.02 million copies for the entire year, and sales only started in July. Thanks to Zoe, Alecz, Ellen, and Onishi for the tip!

'Order of the Phoenix' cast
We previously only knew of five actors who were confirmed for the fifth movie, but we can now make a few additions to that list after hearing from the actors themselves at the world and domestic premieres of GOF.

Confirmed:
James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley)
Jamie Waylet (Vincent Crabbe)
Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas)
Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley)

Although he told us at the London premiere he wasn't sure if he would be returning for OOTP, Warner Bros. has now confirmed that Tom Felton will indeed reprise the role of Draco Malfoy in the movie.

In negotiations:
Tiana Benjamin (Angelina Johnson)
Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan)... "things going well"
Warwick Davis (Profesor Flitwick)... "not sure yet"
David Bradley (Argus Filch)... "hopeful"
Afshan Azad (Padma Patil)... "can't say yet"

Not returning:
Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter)

We have no information on whether the rest of the cast will be returning at this point, but we suspect most of them will reprise their roles if offered by Warner Bros.

GOF sets IMAX box office record
WB announced today that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: The IMAX Experience is now IMAX's highest grossing digitally re-mastered 2D release. It earned a staggering $16m on 89 screens around the globe. Its closest competition came from Batman Begins, which grossed $15.9m last year.

Additionally, the latest Potter flick gathered $36m at the worldwide box office over the past weekend, making it the highest grossing film of 2005 with a sum of $850m, ahead of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith's $848.5m. This figure also shot the film to #11 on the list of the top films of all time.

New video interviews with Katie and Robert

Posted by Matthew on 01-06-06 @ 9:45 PM - 62 comments
MyMovies.net has posted a new video interview with Katie Leung (Cho Chang) and Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), in which they discuss when and where they were when they found out they were cast in the movie, their first days on set, and feedback from fans.

Robert said, "I read a lot as the shoot went on, and I read the book loads and loads of times. I gradually found out about all these Harry Potter websites, and the comments, which they put in the forums, I thought were really, really helpful, 'cause they remind you of little things - well, things that you've never even noticed in the book, which are really helpful. There are lots of cool things, like even his main description, which was like the strong, silent type or something - I completely overlooked that in the book, and I read some fans saying that, so I thought, "I'll play it strong and silent."

The interview can be seen here. Thanks to HP4U for the tip!

List of deleted scenes on GOF DVD

Posted by Matthew on 01-03-06 @ 7:21 AM - 188 comments
Thanks to HarryLatino, we have descriptions of all eight deleted scenes on the upcoming Goblet of Fire DVD:

SCENE 1: Dumbledore asks his students to welcome the Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students as warmly as possible, and the Hogwarts students then break into song ("Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts").

SCENE 2: A Durmstrang student asks a girl to go to the Yule Ball with him. She says yes, while two of her friends gesture something in the background.

SCENE 3: Harry tries to catch Cho, but she's surrounded by her friends, so he waits until later (at the Owlery) to ask her out.

SCENE 4: Flitwick introduces the Weird Sisters band at the Yule Ball, the lead singer makes a short speech, and they then start one of their songs.

SCENE 5: Karkaroff warns Snape about the growing strength of the Dark Mark, which is emblazoned on both of their arms. Snape pays no heed to his warnings, and instead mentions something about Fawcett and Stebbins (two students), who appear briefly in the scene.

SCENE 6: Mr. Crouch talks with Harry, and during their discussion, Mad-Eye Moody appears, prompting Mr. Crouch to leave.

SCENE 7: Harry, Ron, and Hermione discuss Mr. Crouch's death and its implications. Ron thinks that Fudge will do his best to hush up the incident, and Hermione suggests that Harry talks to Dumbledore about it.

SCENE 8: The trio guess what Karkaroff is hiding on his arm. Hermione asks Harry which ingredients Snape claims he stole from his cupboard, and she quickly realizes that they are ingredients in the Polyjuice Potion.

Pics of GOF costume display in Hong Kong

Posted by Matthew on 01-03-06 @ 1:20 AM - 18 comments
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released in China just two weeks ago, and to help promote the movie, Warner Bros. set up one of the larger costume displays we've seen in Hong Kong's Times Square, an indoor shopping complex.

Thanks to reader Bonnie, we have pictures of all costumes on display, including one of Cedric's casual outfits, Cho's Owlery costume (ironically enough, they have the same coat and scarf), both Fleur's and Krum's swimsuits, and an up-close look at Ron's Omniculars. The full set of pictures can be seen at the galleries.

Pictures from a new Daniel Radcliffe photoshoot were published in the latest edition of Parateens Magazine, and thanks to Guadalupe and DR.com, we have scans of it. The article doesn't contain any new information about Dan, but it does include four new pictures of him.

Reports from London, NY GOF premieres!

Posted by Matthew on 01-02-06 @ 5:48 AM - 80
These reports are a more than a month and a half belated, but now that I've had a chance to sit down and type to my heart's content, they are finally here. They are all-inclusive reports - sparing no detail - of both the London and New York Goblet of Fire premieres in November. Yes, perhaps they're even a little too long, but editing is for the faint-hearted.

Potter fans really did dominate the polls! 😲 Rupert I think your a great actor and all but your no match when it comes to Jake Gyllenhaal~! I loved him in Donnie Darko and I'm still dying to see him in Brokeback Mountain~! *-*

But seriously there has to be some flaws with this poll if Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is winning in these categories. 😕

- Best Foreign Language (non-English) Film
- Best Independent Film
- Best Documentary

o_O since when was Harry Potter a Documentry~!?

Anywho, JK Rowling must be rolling with dough with Half-Blood Prince being the best seller of 2005. ^^ Good for her... 😊
