Sanjay lets mom have her say

Sanjay Leela Bhansali who can make a star out of nobody has roped in one film old Rajiv Khandelwal for his forthcoming film Chenab Gandhi. Apparently, there has been quite some fuss about the male lead for this film. After many denials and rejections, the filmmaker has narrowed down to Rajeev.

However, Sanjay who is known to work things his way was not the man behind this decision. "It was my mother who recommended Rajeev. She had seen him in an Ekta Kapoor serial. I had never watched any of Rajeev's work, not even his film Aamir. I needed someone who can speak Hindi and Urdu fluently. Not too many of the younger generation actors can do that," says Bhansali.

Initially, Sanjay wasn't too convinced with this choice but after looking at the chemistry between Rajiv and his lead actress Vidya Balan, which apparently the actor himself wasn't too sure of, he decided to go ahead with his mother's choice.

"When we did a photo session with Rajeev and Vidya, they looked as compatible as Aishwarya did with Salman and Shah Rukh in my Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, respectively. Of course, I left the final decision to my director Vibhu Puri," reveals Bhansali.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali even made a startling prophecy about Rajeev Khandelwal. Bhansali said, "Rajeev is the star of tomorrow. He exudes that feeling of confidence that suggests stardom."
