Mayur Short-Story

Nupur and Mayank Sharma are both 24 years old. They totally despise each other. However, due to unfavorable circumstances, they both are married to each other. Nupur hates Mayank's sarcastic attitude towards her and Mayank hates Nupur's talkative personality. She thinks that he needs to tone down the sarcasm, and he thinks that she should keep the chattering to a minimum. However, they cannot express their distain toward each other because Mayank's parents are under the impression that Mayank and Nupur are madly in love. Nupur and Mayank do not have the heart to break their parent's hearts, so they pretend to love each other. However, during night time, when they are all alone, their fights begin. NIGHT TIME IN MAYUR'S ROOM'

Nupur was on the bed with her laptop. She was chatting with her friends on msn. When she chats, she gets really caught up; she begins talking as she types. Mayank, on the other hand, was sitting on the other side of the bed looking at some office files. He likes everything silent when he works. However, Nupur kept on talking. She had no idea that her talking was annoying Mayank.

Mayank (in a very rude manner): gosh Nupur, do you have to talk so much? I'm trying to work here.

Nupur (annoyed): well, you could've told me before and nicely too..sheesh..(Under her breath) baby..

Mayank: what? What did you call me?

Nupur: you wanna know what I called you? I called you a baby because you keep on whining!

Mayank: me? I whine? Look whose talking! Queen of whims! You don't do anything. I'm the one who works day after day to make money while you sit here and talk to your friends!

Nupur: excuse me! I work too! I'm an interior designer if you didn't know! I meet people all day, and you know how hard it is to smile at people 24/7 and agree with them even if they are annoying you? Also, I come home and help make dinner! All you do is sit in the office all day! I'm the one who does real work around here!

Mayank: what?!? Office work is so much harder! At your job, all you do is act! At my job, I actually use my brains! Wait, I can't blame you for not using your brains because you don't have any!

Nupur: what?!? You take that back! I am and was and will continue to be much smarter then you!...

Nupur and Mayank continued to argue, and with each reply, both began to get much louder. They were practically yelling at each other. Mayank's parents could hear their kids yelling, but they were puzzled at why they were yelling. To them, Mayank and Nupur loved each other dearly and always got along with each other.

Shilpa (Mayank's mom): I wonder why Nupur and Mayank are yelling? Do you think there's a problem?

Nitin (Mayank's dad): I don't know. Do you think so? I think you should go and check it out at least. Okay?

Shilpa: ok I'll go.

Shilpa went off to her son and daughter-in-law's room. She heard voices coming. They sounded like Nupur and Mayank's.

Nupur and Mayank had heard their parent's door open. Instead of quieting down, they had gotten even louder.

Nupur: moron! You're so loud!

Mayank: me? You're the loud one loser!

Shilpa had heard the "moron" and "loser" parts. She opened the door; her face a mixture of worry and anger.

Shilpa: excuse me! Did I just hear moron and loser come from your mouths?

Nupur: *gasp* um..uh..eh..um..yeah..but it's not what you think it is!

Shilpa (in a threatening voice): then what is it?

Nupur: um, you see, I did call Mayank a moron, but I didn't mean that Mayank is a moron, you see. Mayank is my..husband, so I can't say anything like that to him! But moron is totally different. It stands for My' Observant 'ish' Riveting-ly' Obliging' N..New Husband! Yeah! That's it! MORON..H, but the "H" is silent. See? I love Mayank mom! (Gives devilish smile to Mayank)

Shilpa: aw..Nupur, you are so sweet! You even gave Mayank a nickname! I new you would turn out to be the perfect daughter-in-law! and what about you Mayank? What does loser mean?

Mayank: that..um..mom..you see..um..it mean..uh..I got it! It means Lovely.. Overjoying-ly..Smart..Efficient-ish'R..R..Reviving-ful Wife! Yes! That's it! LOSER..W..but "W" is silent..like Nupur said.

Shilpa: aw..you both are so sweet. Now go to sleep and stop fighting over something small. Good night!

Mayank's mom left the room.

Nupur: copy-cat! You copied me lines..now who has the brain?

Mayank: oh whatever. Big deal. I'm doing as mom said. I'm going to sleep, so let me please sleep with no noise!

Mayank quickly ducked under the covers and fell asleep. After a little while Nupur also fell asleep.
