What they showed at Jyoti's wedding was truly wonderful.
It is indeed path breaking for a father to say that his daughter is his pride and he will not be able to do her kanyadaan, and eben more wonderful is the fact that Jyoti's in laws decided to do away with Kanyadaan altogether.
There is no point in doing "daan" of a "Kanya" these days, since it is a woman who is getting married and not a young girl. And in any case, daughters are not burden to be transferred from one family to other.
It really made me very glad that they opted for "Hasta Milan" between the groom and the bride, and did away with a humiliating and primitive practice of Kanyadaan.
