Yash Pandit becomes Varun KothariYash Pandit, whose claim to fame was his character Lakshya from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, will soon be seen on the show Hum Dono Hai Alag Alag on Star One. We caught up with the actor to get the details on the project.
Tell us about the show and your character.
It is the story of the Kothari family. There are two sons in the family and I am playing one of them- he is called Varun. My onscreen brother is very different from my character. While I am playing a very simple person; he is flamboyant. The show revolves around how things change once something happens within the family.
How did you prepare for the role?
It has shades of Lakshya and Sidhharth, the character I played in Betiyaan. It is a very challenging role so I read up a lot and worked on my body language. The creative team too has put in a lot of effort conceptualising the character. I work on my lines before shooting so that I can get into the skin of my character. My look is simple and sober; not stylish like the current generation. He is like a boy from the interiors of India.
How has your experience shooting for the show been?
It's been nice. Both the channel as well as the production house has taken a lot of effort and they supervise everything. So far, we have shot for just one day but the way every individual's scene is focused on is great. Play Time Creations (production house) has made me comfortable. We have a huge set on Mira Road (Mumbai) and it was a nice first day. Our next schedule will start soon.
Do you miss Kyunki…?
Yes, I do. It was my first show and gave me my break in the industry so it is very close to me. Whenever I go out, people still call me Lakshya. I am in touch with Twinkle, Mouni, Manav and Reshmi. They are like family to me. It would surely be great to meet Hiten and everyone again. My relationship with Balaji was always good. They offered me roles here and there but told me that they wouldn't want to push me into just any character so I will wait for something good to come along.
What kept you busy after Kyunki...?
I did a cameo on Betiyaan for a month where I played Siddharth. I also starred in Tyohar Dhamaka. After this, I accepted this role on of Hum Dono Hai Alag Alag because the character is very strong and I have scope to perform. Other than that, right now, the next 30 days of mine are packed so I can't do anything more.
Meanwhile, the launch of Hum Dono Hai Alag Alag will take place post the IPL. The show is slated to air on the primetime slot.
