Cool topic. I think there should be a ban on having more than 2 children. And for every additional child, there should be something like additional tax.

If more children are needed, people can adopt the thousands of orphaned children around the world. It will be better for both parties, the adopter as well as the parents. 👏

completely agree with that. you made an excellent point! 👏👏👏

I don't think the government has any right to regulate the number of offsprings one can have have. Instead of making lwas to restrict, the state should focus more on educating the masses and encouraging the need for smaller families. Having been involved in health care activities in the rural areas of Bengal, I can tell that the poor people are nowadays much more aware than they were before.

in china and many other places the g'vt controls how many kids u have, or if u have any. And in most cases if its a boy then u hav to send the child for military training, which is a mandatory law. Do u think that this is fair to the children or the parents? being forced to only procreate a certain amount of children? or is it better b/c we can limit the number of ppl born into the world so that we dont overpopulate the earth?

Interesting topic, controlling population growth has its pros and cons,

In china due to controls put in early 90, today it has high ageing population, their children's stay in the cities, and the parents stay alone in the villages, even their children face various problems due to only child policy, the kid has no companionship, however for India 60% of the population is in the age group of 20-40 and due to this many big MNCs are opening shop, the country is booming with consumerism and service sector jobs.

Replying to pointed question, I believe population controls should be done in a systematic manner after weighing the pros and cons of such measures, for we indeed need to preserve scare resources and at the same time ensure there are enough human beings on this earth to use those resources.

Sorry for deviating, but something struck me......

In China, now there must be WHOLE generation of people who have no idea what it is like to have a brother or a sister, and later the kids would have no idea of a cousin....or any extended family.....no aunts, uncles,no neices, no nephews.....

It's scary !!!

It is a stupid rule infact. But instead they should have make them realize the problems which they face if they have more children. They could have given scholarship those who have not more than 2 kids.In this way they can attract and stop them issuing more kids.

Awareness about taking care of your own must be made, people should be made aware that take up only as much as you can possibly manage.

The main concern about population and population control and explosion is that we will be unable to manage our finances and resources. Well then we must try and generate them. Nothing is wrong with having 1 billion people unless they all not illiterate or unemployed.
The issue is not just population the issues is unemployed population that dont/cant contribute to society and dont/cant pay the gvernment their due.

I think we must focus on how to generate an adequate cushioning system for the population that wont take care of their children. Maybe the government could adopt these children, and send them to school. Once they are ready to be employed they could do theri bit and return the government the favor and subsidies by working for them, repay your loan.

So just as people generate people make them also generate income. So force the people to make people that will pay the government in cash and kind in the future.
Dont force them to not make people at all.

Had to add that, never forget the best resource to have is people.

its not just abt income guys. its abtt resources too. some resources r recyclable, thats tru. but not all of them. if we run out of these valuable resources, well what then? and there r many sky scrapers built, and still we have no more space to accomodate the popluation. right now many countries are facing shortage of food. in these condition i believe that rightr now every piece of land that can be agriculturally cultivated is being used for agriculture. why generate more ppl and let them starve to death. as someone else suggested, if ppl want more children, then let them adopt man. like even those poor orphans r humans. if these ppl can heartlessly ignore these orphans' hunger for love and support and think that these orphans r less deserving than the child born of their womb, then i think these ppl don't deserve children. those orphans r not asking for much r they? just someone to hug them, to make them feel loved, to make them feel like there is someone in this world who accepts them as their child.

I feel there should be postive way of handling an overpopulated country . Like Kavitha said scholarships for people who have two or one kids.(i mean for the children), Also there could be some subsidising food costs . There could allotment of housing .

I am not saying neglect the people who have 10 kids . But reward the ones that have one or two kids !!This way there would be an incentive for couples to have small families !!

Seema, I agree with you orphans can be adopted. But the people who are aware enough of adoption are not the one's responsible for the growth in population for the most part. IF they were that intelligent they would not be having so many children in the first place.

Atleast in India, the acute food shortage is not because Indian farmers do not generate enough, it has to do with political and economic bullshit, pardon the language. the Indian farmer produces more than enough grains to feed our populace.
Food rots in the granaries and the grains of rise are not distributed because of the middle men who lose out on some extra cash, who cares about hungry children anyway?
