Characterization of Radhika and Dev- an update

A few weeks back, I had written my initial take on Dev, Radhika and Vishakha's characterizations- character sketches, not whether I LIKE their characters or not. After the past few days, there have been some shifts in the lead pair.

After the "almost-molested" incident, Radhika looks at Dev with a new pair of eyes. She knows that he loves her totally and will even keep the truth from others for HER sake, to save her sister. She is more comfortable about the fact that Dev loves her totally. She has accepted that FACT totally. That has given her a new strength- she is crying less and actually taking some action- like giving it good to Mrinalini bhabhi and Vishaka and her mom, today.👏 She made it more than clear to her mom that Dev is her husband and no other.

As for Dev, he has accepted the fact too, to Radhika in her bedroom and Keshav in the car that he loves only one person and none other. Just that acceptance has paved a path for these two to be clear in their actions, hopefully from here on- no more tears.

There is a deep sense of completion when we KNOW that we are loved and we love. There is no need for any kind of proof or words. It is a warm feeling that stays with us irrespective of whether the person is there or not. Of course, the viraha bhav that dadi was talking about today, makes the pain of longing more intense. Aashad- the month for viraha is coming around in 4 weeks. The months of the monsoon and all those malhar ragas can fill the ether to their heart's content, but for the couple they have started out at a new plane in their relationship.

Now the other interactions with other characters need to improve. Dadi needs to recognize the longing in Dev and Radhika for each other and infer that the girl Dev wanted to marry was Radhika not Vishaka. In the very beginning, Dadi thinks Radhika to be her Choti Bahu when she sees her for the first time at the temple.

Vivek needs to be co-Raj Prohit and come clear on a lot of stuff. He could use some help in developing his character by getting rid of his wife or taming her- either ways.

Vaishali can come out of her daze of being a widow and be more involved in the daily running of the household with able support from Deepika.

As for Vishaka, she needs to get a plum(p) role in Bollywood and become a famous star, leaving behind the Prohits.

Blokes beautifully said. Rad appears more mature these days. I think that after whatever happens next week, Rad's character will change.
I have been thinking about this
So Dev saved Rad's body from drowning, Rad saved Dev during illness.
Last week Dev saved Rad's honor both by preventing her physical rape and then forcing Vish to save her reputation. My feeling is that Rad may return to Dev to save him this time. I am not sure, but I agree that we are on a completely different playing field.
I have re-thought my expectations of the show. What do I want and why. Is it for my prurient gratification that I want then to hold hands and romance each other? These characters have already become a union. Somehow right under our noses, they became a union without a lot of words or physical actions.
Rad said, the time for us to speak of our love has passed. I thought how depressing. But it has passed because it is passe'. As you say, there is a strange calmness that needs no language and not ratification. I have developed a new respect for the show and a new critical awareness that in some ways it is the viewer that needs to re-define our visual representation of what true love is and not the creatives.

Blokes, JP you both explained the current turn in the show very well. After reading this post I realized that the frustration and anger that I had for Rads lying, hiding and in general her behavior has changed into hope! Something good has to come of this seperation!

Yes JP- their silence speaks clearly now. No more rona dhona and no more "sheep eyes" of Dev's following Rads around... both have matured away from a teenagy "romance" and gotten to the "real" thing- the kind that develops with deep trust and faith in the other's love for self- rarely we find such matches- I have seen this to be true in some older couples who have been married for decades. They have an ease of "space" that is amazing to see. Like Kalil Gibran says of Marriage, they are two massive trees that need to remain near but not grow under each other's shade.

R u kidding me- I have reviled rads to no end for not telling dev the truth about their marriage. But now it is irrelevant- they feel wedded, irrespective of any society etc. However, it needs to be seen if characters like dadi and vishakha come to know of this amazing love- Oh! I am certainly looking forward to the day Dadi comes to know of this goof up 😍

I will certainly give you a "religious" piece soon- LOL however, if u feel the show is getting depressing, just go back and watch the first few episodes where they meet and fall in love- oooh! they look so young and innocent and sweet! ❤️ 😳

Blokes, loved the post, so warm, so sensitive ... 😊

What a perfect way to end the week ... thank you !!!

The magic word is security. Financial, emotional and physical security are the three pillars which form the secure base upon which we build our lives.

I agree with you. Now that Dev and Radhika feel secure in their love for each other, their relationship will grow stronger and with more emotional intimacy and happiness.

Though separated, this "bond" is their path to emotional maturity, balance and survival.

Perhaps from now on Radhika's character will adopt an optimistic self-image. (I so want to see that).

Have a nice weekend ...
