GOF year's 4th biggest tearjerker
Entertainment Weekly has published their "Reel Tears" list, a ranking of 2005's biggest on-screen tearjerkers, and GOF came in at fourth due to the murder of a student in one of the final scenes:
It's the darkest moment up to that point in the Potter saga, as Harry experiences the death of someone close to him for the first time since he lost his parents. Meanwhile, he's forced to confront just how deadly his nemesis Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) is, and how likely it is that their clash may claim the lives of more innocents.
JKR updates online diary
In her first diary entry since December 25, JK Rowling outlines her five New Year's Resolutions, ranging from "mucking out her study" to "following advice from critics on how to be a better writer." She writes: After a somewhat panicky few weeks I have finally located a missing notebook. As always when I mislay these things, I had been 'remembering', in its absence, that it contained notes so essential and ideas so imaginative that I would never be able to duplicate them, and the whole of the next book would be impoverished if they were never found. Now that I have said notebook beside me on this desk, however, I see that it contains few useful nuggets amid a lot of complete dross. Nevertheless, the stress I endured while believing it to be the notebook equivalent of the Holy Grail was enough to remind me that I must take better care of my working materials.
