Well Actually Anant knows that Madhu's biggest weakness he himself. So he knows that if Madhu comes to know that Anant's life is even in slightest danger then Madhu will do anything to save him. He doesnt really need to hurt himself, just the idea of hurting himself is enough to black-mail Madhu.
