Hello all - it's been ages!!!😉
Well as I have no desire to talk about depressing stuff I thought I'd turn your heads to the question of the pregnancy bump!😛
When I had my first baby 10 years ago (😲😲) the general consensus was cover up, with smock tops and flowing maternity wear (especially from the inlaws who had tents sewn up for me!!😡)
Third time round ( I'm 7 months at the mo😳) I cant believe the changes! It's all about the bump and showing it off to the hilt - and I confess, I rather like it this way!😆👍🏼
But how bout everyone else?
Is it good to cover up and not show your business to all ( as one old West Indian Grandma remarked abut a very pregnant weather presenter on TV " Look at her, showing the whole world she's had sex" So cracked me up!!!!!!😆😆😆)
Or should preggie Mums be proud of their bumps and stick them out big and round, and still wear skimpy little tops and clingy clothes???
Would love to hear from you all with your views,👍🏼 or 👎🏼
From a really round 😡M😡

Well its a natural state we cannot avoid, but i think shhushing it up would be an option i would go for, the bump does look unpleasant.

It's more than about physical appearances. The question becomes more relevant when we think of: is the work-place still prejudiced? especially academia?

Show it! With pride!👍🏼Why should anyone ssh it? I cannot find a single reason, seriously.😕It's a natural phase that every woman goes through some time or other.

If you got it flaunt it. After all its not any bump. Its probably the most precious part of a woman's body and life.

The only concern would be to be discerning. There is a fine line between aesthetically showing off your precious and appearing like sloppy trailer trash. My personal problem with most pregnant women flaunting is that it looks tacky, sloppy and so unattractive.

Eva Herzigova showing off her bump on Vanity Fair 👍🏼
Britney Spears doing the same 👎🏼

Honestly, I don't think it matters, personal choice is more like it. Do what you gotta do, just make sure that you look good doing it. 😉

One thing though that I will say is you should always maintain a level of decency. And skimpy and trashy, falls short of decent.

Great responses guys - a very mixed bag!!!

@Crazy_Sunny - no offence taken whatsoever😊
But IMHO bumps and bulges do differ....bumps i think of as pregnancy bumps and register entirely differently in my head - bulges I think of as fat and has an entirely different meaning for me....maybe I'm just weird
Deffo - some people carry off being pregnant really well - and I think a lot of that has to do about having a positve attitude. But I also agree there's tasteful and trashy....
@Persistence - if I understand you correctly, are you are referring to the prejudice that may be encountered in the work place if you flaunt your bump? Am lucky enough where I live that pregnant women have a certain amount of legislative protection that should make any employer think twice about such prejudicial behaviour.
However even in places where it does not exist, people should remember that being pregnant doesnt mean you are ill or have a disease, and that extra consideration should be given for flexibility to allow that preganant employee to continue performing their job proficiently as far as possible.
In some professions, it can be tricky. As a lawyer, I used to do a lot of family law cases and found some unwelcome attention towards my bump at that time which was an unwanted distraction. But then as a professional - you take steps to mitigate those effects.
Not sure why academics/academia should have any particular problem, though...
Keep up the dialogue and thanks to all!😊

I like to look at women's pregnancy bumps. Makes me soo want to get pregnant(so much that my mum says 'look out, U'll end up in a sex racket!), and I love to visualise the tiny kid all curled up inside. An I feel so happy for the mom too. I will definitely show my pregnancy bump around when I get pregnant (some day!), I want people to know that there's life grwoing inside me. But not with skimpy clothes on, somehting loose under which I'm comfortable.
