| IIFA to Have Many Absentees By MovieTalkies.com, 9 June 2009 |
| Maybe it has something to do with the timing of the IIFA awards, which leads many film stars to stay away from it. This year is proving to be no different. The awards which will be held from June 11 to 13 at Macau, is already reporting quite a few absentees. Maybe it has something to do with Amitabh Bachchan being the brand ambassador of the awards, but Shah Rukh Khan will again not be able to attend the event. The reason that SRK gives is different, of course. According to him, it is the timing of the awards which interferes with his children's vacations. Currently, the actor is reported to be shooting for Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan in the US, along with Kajol. Just a couple of days ago, there were reports that Akshay Kumar had backed out of the event as he had planned a family holiday for June, well in advance. There was no way that the khiladi was going to break his son's heart and come for the event. Saif Ali Khan was to introduce his film at IIFA and hold an international press conference, but he has backed out and will instead be attending the T20 cricket World Cup being held in England. He has tied up with the organisers to promote his film, Love Aaj Kal. If Saif is heading to the UK, then can ladylove Kareena Kapoor be far behind. The lady who was to do learn belly dancing from Shaimak Davar and perform the 'Marjani' number from Billoo Barber for the event has also decided to follow in Saif's footsteps. As if that was not enough. Shahid Kapur too will not be attending the event. Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra will be there but will not be performing. With so many absentees, it seems that the IIFA in Macau will definitely lack for star power. |
