Promax/BDA Awards 2009: Viacom18 shines with 17 metals

The winners of Promax/BDA Awards 2009 were announced at an event held in Mumbai recently. Viacom18 has emerged as the front runner, with 17 metals (10 gold and 7 silver) across various categories. It grabbed three gold awards - Best Sound Design, Funniest Spot and Best Animation for Jingle Bells.
The Viacom Inc and Network18 equal joint venture also took gold for other properties - Splitsvilla I (Best Promotional Campaign), MTV Style Check Packaging (Best Programme Title Sequence), OTJ-2 Photographer (Best Script), Fully Faltoo Film Festival (Best Launch Campaign), Gangstar (Best Interactive Promo), Roadies Battleground (Best Logo Original Design) and Delhi 6 Ident (Best in-house Station Image Promo).
Roadies bagged a silver in the Best Entertainment Promo Category. The other silvers for the group were: MTV's Scary Mary for the Best In-House Station Image Promo; Change - Republic Day song for the Best Original Music Composition; Bingo Crunch for the Best Brand-Integration Promo; Aids Cock Promo for the Best Public Service Announcement; Flavours won second spot in the Best Animation and Couple Sutra won in the Best Original Logo Design.
Colors, the GEC from Vaicom18, secured six awards (two gold and four silver). The gold awards were for Best Sales and Marketing Presentation (Corporate Presentation Mime AV) and Best In-house Ident Design, Out of Home (Graphic Channel ID - Colors). Best In-house Ident Design, Out of Home, is a new category.
Colors' four silvers were for: Best Launch Campaign for Balika Vadhu, Best Children's Programme Promo for Jai Shri Krishna - Gopiyan, Best In-house Ident Design (Out of Home) for Composite ID and Best Programme Title Sequence for Mohe Rang De.
National Geographic Channel Networks (India) scored seven metals (four gold and three silver) across various categories. It received gold for History Rocks Genric (Best Documentary Promo), Fingerprint (Best Public Service Announcement), Fire Cracker Fingerprint (Something for Nothing Category) and Human Weapon (Best Print Campaign).
The silvers for the NGC Networks were for: Best Documentary Promo for Superships, Cigarette Spot for Something for Nothing and Best Print Category for Fox H&E.
Multi Screen Media (MSM) India won nine metals (three gold and six silver). It pocketed two gold awards for IPL: Best Sports Promo for IPL - The Baap of All Entertainment and Best Holiday/ Seasonal/Special Event promo for IPL - Breaking Boundaries. The Mother Promo for Indian Idol 4 received the Best Original Music Composition, which is a new category.
Indian Idol 4's Mother Promo also bagged two silvers for Best Editing and Best Sound Design. Another three were for IPL promos in the categories of Best Sports Promo, Best Holiday/ Seasonal/ Special Event Promo and Best Script. The group's Shiver and Shakes campaign for PIX got a silver in the Best Promotional Campaign category.
Genx Entertainment, pocketed five metals (two gold and three silver). Die Hard got the gold for Best Editing and Superman bagged the gold for Best Movie Promo. Genx's silver awards were: Best On-Air Ident Design, Out-of-Home (Spell It Right), Funniest Spot (Talking Posters) and Best Movie Promo (Kill Bill).
TV Today Network and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) secured two gold awards each. For TV Today Network, Satta Ka Semifinal got a gold in Best News/Current Affairs Promo Campaign and Snail ID secured a gold in Best On-Air Ident Design (In-House).
For ZEEL, Green Turn Water Clock won a gold for Best Collateral Material and Toony Town got a gold for Best Children's Programme Promo.
UTV and The Walt Disney Company India pocketed four awards each. Both managed to secure one gold and three silvers.
UTV Entertainment Television bagged gold for Best out of house Station Image Promo for Suhaag Raat and silver for Best out of house Station Image Promo for Akhri Khat. UTVi got two silver metals: for Real Estate in Best on-air Branding Design, and A Minute of Silence in Best News/ Current Affairs Promo.
The Walt Disney Company India bagged gold in Best On-air Branding Design for Hungama Channel Navigational Elements. Its three silvers were: Best Sales and Marketing Presentation (Hungama TV Summer Sales Pitch), Best Interactive Promo (Hannah Montana The Big Pop Star Dream) and Best Collateral Material (for Hungama TV's Fun Photo Machine).
Star India and NDTV Imagine got a gold and silver each. Star India bagged both gold and silver in Best Comedy Promo Category for Hello Kaun ? Pehchaan Kaun! - Medicine and Detergent, respectively. NDTV Imagine secured gold and silver for Best Drama Promo Bandini and Kitani Mohabbat Hai Promo, respectively.
Vh1 India pocketed gold for Vh1 Left Of Center in the Best Entertainment Promo category. Sahara India bagged a gold for Airtel Rishtey - Weekend Movies on Sahara One in the Best Brand Integration Promo category.
Promax/BDA Awards, recognising the efforts of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, were open to satellite, cable, broadcast television, radio station, new media and their agencies and production houses.
All the entries that qualified for the awards were produced in and for India, Pakistan and/or Bangladesh; or commissioned by a company in these neighboring countries. These entries had gone on air between March 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009.
