Telly actress Sonal Sehgal, who acted in the Hinglish film U, Bomsi and Me, is now Sonal Kamath. Sonal married Naresh Kamath on December 7, at Ram Mandir, Bandra. Naresh is a year older than Sonal, who is 26.

Band bonding

Sonal was seeing Naresh since February this year. Naresh is part of two music bands — Kailasa (Kailash Kher is the lead singer); and Bombay Black, with older brother, Paresh. Naresh is the band's bass guitarist, and a permanent fixture on Mumbai's jazz circuit.

When contacted, Sonal said, "My shaadi happened in very filmi style. On December 5, I was in Delhi, and Naresh called me; he said we needed to get married in the next few hours."

When Sonal landed at Santacruz airport, she was shocked to see that Naresh had come to receive her with his lawyer. "On the way back, he asked the lawyer to advise us about how our relationship could be legalised, pronto. I was speechless," revealed Sonal.

Ration card tension

"I asked my mother to get my ration card, which would be essential as proof of residence for registering the marriage, but her entire luggage was lost in transit. Luckily, she had a xerox copy of the ration card in her handbag. We had a bit of resistance from the court since we didn't have the original, but eventually, they permitted us."

Inseparable duo

"After Hotel Kingston ended, I have been shuttling between Mumbai and Delhi quite a bit. My parents are in Delhi. Naresh and I had reached a point where we could not stay without each other anymore. I had told my parents that I was seeing someone.

Some time back, Naresh was returning from abroad, and had stopped by Delhi before returning to Mumbai; I introduced him to my parents; they liked him," Sonal added.

First date

Sonal met Naresh before she entered the TV industry. "I was writing lyrics for a friend, Tara Baswani, who is a singer. Naresh was setting the tunes. I liked him even then, but we never got talking much. This year, in February, I bumped into him at a party and we hit it off very well. Almost instantly, we started dating."

Any plans to start a family? "Aisi bhi kya jaldi hai?" asks the nayi dulhan, shyly. Naresh and Sonal have bought a flat in Bandra, and the interiors are being done up. The newlyweds will shift into their love nest soon.

Sonal's parents threw a celebration party for them in Delhi, on Saturday, and the couple returned to Mumbai yesterday.
