yaar so many people comment on the state of indian tv. maybe we all should start making shows!
ghar ki lakshmi - where do i start. i've stopped seeing eons ago so i maybe off on some details (dont worry the story wont get better with those details)
man gets 4 daughters. his mom and he get pissed off at the wife. so mom gets another wife he gets married. first wife, second wife all stay in same house. first wife and her daughters treated like tissue paper - use n throw. both wife pg at same time - first one has daughter again and second one son. #2 is a bitka but is treated like a queen because she alone gave son na!
son is named yuvraj (the dad has a big ego and his mom has always treated him like a king). #1 and her daughters happily do sewa of husband, MIL, #2, and her son. couple of episodes made me puke. but #2, son and mama all turn out to be frauds. as #2 had a girl and she swapped girl for boy. then usual hindi film masala elements - son marries a kothewaali, everybody in house become servants, elder daughter married off to a psycho then remarried to poor but waiting in wings friend turned ghar jamai, murder, amnesia, widows, missing daughter turns out to be a kothewaali (this is not the same kothewaali the son married - now THAT would be interesting twist!), son becomes good, remarries (i dont remember him divorcing the kothewaali but if dad can do it so can i), miscarriage, good girl cant have baby so he hooks up with the kothewaali again for kid - now good girl does sewa of hubby and kothewaali, more daughters marry guys who either become mad or ghar jamais or strangely disappear. Sometimes the old man and his mom reform but once in a while they forget why they have to be good and do evil things again to torture the betiyaans and the goody two shoes mom. Toss in dance contests instead of lotteries that only these girls can win and earn some lots of crores or lacs or whatever. Hmm come to think of it 80% of the women on this show earn their living thru dancing.
properties change hands like, well, change. tv world mein stamp duty, registration, income tax etc nahin hota na so they can do all these swaps daily. this may not give u the details u really wanted but after a while it was too sickening to watch.

BRAVO!! no offence to anyone, but am really realllyy happy this show is going off air.
when the promos for jaane kya baat hui were aired, i had been very excited at the prospect of a good theme - extra marital affairs which are acceptable for men, and yet for a woman, they signify disgrace.. also the theme song had been very catchy and appropriate highlightin the sensitivity with which this project could have handled.
and yet, the creatives failed to catch the attention of the audience because of their inability to execute the said storyline effectively. the focus became too much on the household with its petty fights, and the ever complaining vrinda and the ever efficient araddhana.

its not that the indian audience cannot accept extra marital affairs, after all they are the norm in kekta soaps. its just that the creative team have failed in their execution and took a long time with unnecessary twists to get to the original storyline, which should have shown araddhana falling in love with shantanu as she never got any love or support from her husband alongwith dealing with his infidelities.

the plot had great potential, if only the focus wouldn't have shifted towards the plotting and planning going on within the household, the unnecessary fights and melodrama, a wife who forgives her husband anything to get him back.. that is just NOT practical in today's times. bold concepts will always manage to work with viewers as long as the portrayal is apt, and convincing.

without grasping araddhana's character, her ambitions, her desires, the show droned on and on trying to make us pity her while it would have been a hell lot better if she had been shown as a woman who forced by circumstances, seeks solace in the arms of a stranger and is then condemned by society, while her husband gets away with his flings. it should then have taken an angle where she should have been shown emerging stronger than ever, ready to question the notions of a biased society which restrict women the same freedom that men enjoy. she should have effectively ended the marriage, rather than planning and plotting herself to get her philandering husband back to her, and then moved on to begin a new journey..

if the story had gone this way, it would have been a major hit as it has already been proved through shows like astitva, saans, balika vadhu etc that different always works. but to make it work, what is needed is sensitive portrayal and a strong storyline that doesn't deviate from the original concept.

i mean how can you ever respect a woman who clings to her husband like a leech inspite of knowing about his past rendezvous with other women?

^^ agree with each and every word wit u prats...i too was followin this show just because this concept was unlike the other but it turned out that this was just like others who keeps followin her husband like a shadow despite all his wrong deeds....they had dragged this on and on...and showed aradhna as a weak character when they shudve shown her strong...as she resembles alot of women in the society they shudve given some stronger woman instead of a cryin doormat
