RAMU'S 'RANN' SONG CENSORED

The Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Friday refused permission to the Ram Gopal Verma's Amitabh Bachchan - starrer 'Rann' to air the controversial song based on the national anthem. Vijaya Chawak, secretary to the CBFC chairperson Sharmila Tagore says, "The Censor Board reviewed the film's promo on Friday and decided to refuse permission under guideline 219 of Section 5 (b) 2 of Cinematograph Act as well as Prevention of insult to National Honor Act 1971." She adds the tune of the national anthem cannot be played around with and distorted. However, 'Rann' producer Sheetal Talwar says though the promo was submitted to the CBFC a few days ago, they haven't been informed officially about the CBFC's decision. "We will decide our future course of action after hearing from the Censor Board," the producer added.Incidentally, the song 'Jana Gana Mana Rann hai, Is Rann mein Zakhmi Hua hai Bharat ka Bhagya vidhata' is based on the tune of the national anthem. The film's director Ram Gopal Varma denies the charge that the song is distortion of the national anthem. He said this during a press conference to unveil the film's first look in New Delhi earlier this week.
