I still have a long way to go

Actress deepika padukone clarifies that one flop movie doesn't mean that her film career has come to an end. She also talks about her relationship with ranbir kapoor.
Deepika Padukone was having a dream run when lady luck decided to step down for a bit. Her highly anticipated Chandni Chowk To China with Akshay Kumar flopped at the BO. A coincidental resurgence of Priyanka Chopra's popularity was another pothole in her tryst with the number one spot. Is she disappointed? "Oh no, not at all. It's not like I'm wrapping up my career right away. I have a long way to go, a lot more to achieve. I'm only three films old and thankfully I have seen more ups than downs. I don't mind failure because I feel that's the test of true character. I'm a pretty strong girl and like to believe I'm quite level headed. So I won't let either success or failure affect me," she says.
Talking about CC2C's flop run, she admits, "Of course, it hurt."
"But only because you put a lot of effort into a film. And it's just not your pain but also of the entire team which you get close to, while making the film."
Rumours of her turning ultra cautious about new films and the fact that she's signing umpteen commercials apart from hosting awards shows is now being attributed to her fall from the number one place. "Cut me some slack," she exclaims.
"I hosted one segment of one award show! I did it to see if I could. I like challenging myself. It was a good experience but I am always aware that my primary job here is to act," she clarifies.
"There's nothing wrong with brand endorsements too. I've been a model and I enjoy endorsing products. Modelling is not just about looking good and smiling into the camera. You have to highlight the product as a model. It's a job and I think I do it well," she quips.
And advertisers seem to think so too. Padukone is known for charging an exorbitant fee to endorse any product.
"I don't want to do any and every endorsement coming my way. When I say yes to a campaign, I demand a certain fee. If anyone is not comfortable with that they needn't sign me up for it," she says matter-of-factedly.
Deepika's next release, directed by Imtiaz Ali is also Saif Ali Khan's debut as a producer. Not so surprisingly, there was talk about Saif's lady love Kareena wanting the role in the first place.
Rumour also has it that Deepika has not completed her work on the film and is not co-operating with the publicity machinery. "If I don't finish my work for the film, won't it harm me as well?" she exclaims.
"I've no problems with anyone on the sets of that film. I have interacted with Kareena a couple of times too and there have been no bad vibes. Saif is a wonderful producer to work with. I'm looking forward to the film's release," she says diplomatically.
She might not have issues with Kareena, but what about Katrina Kaif. Word is that Deepika is not so ecstatic about Kats' budding friendship with boyfriend Ranbir. "Oh please," she exclaims dismissing any such rumours.
"I have never been an insecure person. When I am in a relationship I believe there is no place for doubt. There has to be complete trust between the two people involved. Ranbir and I trust each other completely and have no insecurities. In fact, when such stories do the rounds, we laugh about it together, because there's no truth to it," she says.
