MUMBAI: For the last five days, no dialogue has happened between the United Forum and multiplexes. "The situation is worsening,'' says trade
consultant Amod Mehra. "As it is there is a mad rush for Fridays (release day). And with every Friday that the industry misses, the losses keep mounting.''
Film trade expert Komal Nahata says both sides are suffering. "For producers, there will be bunching of films when the ban lifts and for multiplexes, every day lost means irretrievable loss of revenue.''
Adds Mehra, "When the ban on new releases lifts, there be will such a huge crowding of films - some from the same stable - that movies will eat into each other's profits.'' Films like Shortkut, Luck, Kaminaay, Kambakht Ishq, New York and Love Aaj Kal are a few biggies awaiting release. Going by last year's IPL record, all but one film (Jannat) released during the matches bombed. Then, Ramzan begins on August 22 and most producers won't release during the holy month. That leaves about two-and-a-half clear months for movies to release between the IPL and Ramzan. "The current situation is so fluid that one can't say anything definite,'' says Dinesh Vijan, Saif Ali Khan's partner on Love Aaj Kal. "Movies with release dates slotted for May have been postponed. We intend to stick to our scheduled release date (June 26) and hope this situation gets sorted out soon,'' he adds.
Trade sources confirm Vipul Shah had chosen August 14 as his release date for London Dreams. The producer had assumed he would get a clear run until Ramzan, and even further. "Now that films are being moved from their original release date; there is going to be a big clash from the time the strike lifts,'' says Mehra.
Sources also say there is tremendous pressure from the striking producers asking their contemporaries to pull out Akshay Kumar's 8 x 10 Tasveer and Marathi film Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy from multiplexes to 'teach multiplexes a lesson'. However, distributors of these films can't pull out since they have a written agreement with the plexes, informs an industry source.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS AFARID OFF! ARRGGHH!
Ive been saying that no matter which movies are coming out first, ALL MOVIES will get affected, and how in the world will they start to release all these pending movies? Say the stirke ends in August, then all the releases from May till August are just waiting till then to release, and they'll all come out at the same time. And NO MOVIES FOR US TILL THIS STUPID STRIKE ENDS!
HOW ANNOYING!
