Multiplexes meant for the elite might remain empty after April 4. There are two reasons behind it. First, the examination time taxing both the students and the parents. Two, the IPL fever that grips almost all irrespective of the class. Besides, the release of two upcoming big banner films this summer -- 'Kambakht Ishq' and 'Kaminey' -- is in jeopardy following the ongoing tussle between producers and exhibitors! The Akshay Kumar-Kareena Kapoor starrer 'Kambakht Ishq' and the Shahid Kapur-Priyanka Chopra starrer 'Kaminey' are scheduled to release on May 29 and first week of June 5, respectively but now chances are they could be pushed further due to the ongoing revenue-sharing tussle between multiplexes and producer/distributors.
However, it is possible for both films to release on their scheduled dates if the issue of revenue sharing between the producers and the distributors is resolved soon. But in view of the extremely stubborn stand of both the multiplex owners and the Producers' Guild — it looks unlikely. Both the parties have been sticking to their points, according to industry circles. After all, it requires five to six weeks for promoting a film, and the Producers' Guild, has already banned the promotion of new films until there is an agreement. Yes, a producer can release his film early without any promotion but there is little chance that big banner movies like 'Kambakht Ishq' and 'Kaminey' would take the risk of releasing their dear products without promotional activity.
