Bobby's wife, Tania to unveil her new furniture collection
The reticent Tania Deol does not normally give interviews. As she stated in The First Ladies TV show recently, "I'm quite a private person to the point of being shy... that's just the way I like it."
It was also her first ever television outing. Now that she is unveiling a line of furniture and home accessories, Bobby Deol's wife is willing to talk but more about her work, less about her personal life.
The star wife is showcasing her new collection Jewels In The Forest, from tomorrow at a Lower Parel lifestyle store.
In the midst of packing and carting the stuff to the store, she says, "I have tried to use newer materials and mediums to provide a fresh and stylistic look.
The pieces are floral, embellished and have a lot of movement in them. Forests are symbolic of this. They are treasure troves of beauty and splendour."
Using teak wood, pine, coloured mirror, fibre, crystals, semi-precious stones, the collection consists of ornate mirrors to coffee tables, chairs to chandeliers, candle stands to cushion covers and statues.
Says Tania, "I have designed furniture for lots of Bollywood stars from furniture pieces to chandeliers and accessories."
Big support
About her star hubby, she quips, "Bobby has a great aesthetic sense and regularly gives his inputs and suggestions, some of which I do implement. He is very proud of my work and my most ardent supporter.
Without his unflagging support, I would not have been able to achieve one-tenth of what I have.
While emphasising on the aesthetics the interior in my home is very practical. "My children (Aryaman and Dharam) understand a little of my work and ask a lot of questions.
They are careful not to damage or spoil the furniture or accessories we have around our home."
From Tania Deol's interiors collection
She feels in the last few years the interior trend has moved from the ornate and over-the-top to simple and modern with clean lines.
"I apply my sensibilities to trends and while my pieces are contemporary and functional, they also have several elements of the old-world charm and borrow pages from different eras of design.
My pieces are a modern-day marriage of the contemporary with elements of classical design.
Interior and furniture design started out as a hobby with her. "I love putting things together and love good homes. It all began by designing odd pieces for my family and today it has grown into a business for me!"
