Concept of Ghosts in Indian Spirituality

Ok....I know this is a moot point now....since Kayamath is ending soon.....but I was not happy at the turn of events in these final stages of the show. 😭I couldn't understand why Ekta turned this into a comedy horror show? Having been born outside India.....and only visited India once in my lifetime.....I couldn't understand how this ghost worked? My concepts of ghosts and ghosts stories are based on the western version....and this indian version of ghosts was totally alien to me....which is why I saw the funny side of it.😆😆😆
However, after someone mentioned some facts to me....I did a bit of research on Indian spirituality and beliefs.....and now realize how the creatives came up with this concept and why and how Ayesha has come back and is spouting all these senseless dialogues.....and you know what....it all fits in the concept of Indian spirituality. I have noted some salient points from the websites I found......most of the information was way over my head.....but the bits that are relevant to the track are below: -
Having said this.....Ekta and her creatives should have spared our sensibilities with this track.....most audiences overseas do not identify with indian beliefs on spiritualtiy and I am sure around 90% of audiences in India does not have this kind of knowledge on indian spirituality for the track to make sense to them.

What decides where we go and what we become after death?

When we die, our course in the after-life is decided by a number of factors. These factors include:

The number and type of impressions that are created in the sub-conscious mind depending on how we have lived our lives

The type of deeds done during our life-time.

The extent and the type of spiritual practice we had undertaken during our lifetime.

Our Destiny

The type of death – natural and peaceful, violent or accidental.

The type of funeral. In Ayesha's case...they didn't scatter her ashes in the holy river

The rituals as per Spiritual science done by our descendants after our death to help us in our after life.

Who are likely to become ghosts?

People are likely to become ghosts after their death when

They have many unfulfilled desires.

Many personality defects, such as anger, fear, greed, etc.

A lot of negative impressions in the mind.

A high amount of ego.

They have harmed others and have the basic nature of harming others.

They lack spiritual practice consisting of progressive level of surrender of mind body and intellect, done with the intention of God-realisation.

Why would my departed loved ones and my other ancestors want to give me pain?

This is a question that is very commonly asked. People think of their near and dear ones who have passed away and find it unimaginable that they would deliberately cause them problems in life. The following are the two main reasons as to why ancestors trouble their descendants.

Due to unfulfilled desires and
Due to the inability to move on in the after life and attain a higher positive region or sub-region.
Distress due to unfulfilled desires
In this case, ancestors trouble us as they have unfulfilled desires. These desires can include:

Anger directed at descendants who do not use their inheritance in accordance with the ancestors' wishes.

Ancestors who have an attachment to the family and still want things to be done their way.

Ancestors who are addicted to some physical desire such as cigarettes, drugs, sex, (Ayesha fits the bill perfectly here...😆😆😆) food, etc. They take advantage of the remaining give-and-take account between them and their descendants to possess their descendants and fulfill their desires. Departed ancestors trouble their descendants instead of others with whom they may possibly have a give-and-take account with; this is because the bond between blood relations is the strongest.

Ghosts are known to possess individuals who are known to be mentally weaker than them. They will not bother with individuals who are mentally and/or spiritually stronger than them and who are able to repel their possession. 🤢🤢

Kash, Ayesha died on a fairly positive note. She seemed to have accepted Michi's relationship. Secondly, one can't explain why she didn't interfere in Michi's life for 6 years and suddenly appeared now.

It's true that eastern philosophies have this concept of ghosts being born when they die with unfulfilled desires. But BT has exploited this concept too carelessly as they did with marriage and other relationships in the past.

BTW, did you read anything about how to get rid of such ghosts?

Only because it made Milind happy not because it made Prachi happy.....I suspect she still resented Prachi underneath it all.... Secondly, one can't explain why she didn't interfere in Michi's life for 6 years and suddenly appeared now. Maybe BT creatives took license again with the illogical 6 year gap....maybe it took her all this time to crawl her way back from hell (narak)!!!. 😆😆

Ya....they are famous for doing that....in fact....it would make a travestry of the story if they didn't indulge in this aspect.

Kash, I think after the PATHETIC leap track, they just wanted to gain their lost popularity. They were never good at telling a story keeping it all just between Michi. So, they brought in Ayesha again, as Ayesha in between Michi tracks were successful before. Since Ayesha had died without being her obsession for Milind dead, they brought her back as a ghost.
I think it was a decision made in haste to save a sinking ship- which unfortunately didn't work.

As Opti said in one of her posts.....if the story was simple, sensible and relateable.....it would have been more acceptable to the audiences.
Opti's scenario of a long-lost Ayesha's sister with revenge on her agenda would have made more sense than this ghost track....even though this twin type of story has been done and over done till the cows come home. 😆😆
Though....I still have my doubts that Kayamath was originally supposed to end with some kind of supernatural track....just the title of the show indicates that it was a possiblity. 🤢
BTW: I am still very unhappy about the fact that this will probably be the only serial which will end full of unfinished storylines and where most of the injustices will go unpunished!! Come to think of it....this is quite a 'dark' serial in itself.....and was that intended right from the beginning....since Ekta has a beginning and an ending to most of her serials before she starts production....what happens in the middle of the serial is on an ad hoc basis??? 😡

Yes, well because the title is Kayamath, they can justify anything is possible in the name of kayamath (the last day on earth or judgement day- that's what it means I guess).

What worries me is even if it is going to be a tragic end with Michi death- it would only equal Ayesha's status with Michi in the other world. Hence she can still haunt them in the other world. But the worst thing will be for Sumonto, first a fake father and now will be losing both parents.

I remember Aalaap/Bharat saying in an interview during the leap track that he hardly knows if he is to be called back to KYM or not. I guess no one knew what the story was going to be. I also read for TV soaps, writers write on spot.

Kash, off topic-
Since you seemed to have tried to find an answer in philosophy, wanted to ask you if you ever read something about why some people are born with different range of problems? Why it is not fair always?
In case of Ayesha, she was an illegitimate child with a mentally ill mother while her father abandoned her. She grew up with no love and shelter.

OMG!! Hun...not into philosophy....it was just something a relative who said something to me about ghosts......she is quite old and has lived in India most of her life. I was like 😲😲😲 when she said it...and was curious so googled for more info....and hit on this website (see links above). As I said....most of it went way over my head...but I did understand the ghost bits!! 🤣
Now if you asked me about life's fairness and unfairness......most indian philosophers would say....it is your deeds relating to your previous life that govern your next life.

Hence she can still haunt them in the other world. According to this website.....you either go up to heaven (swarag) or hell (narak) or roam as a ghost on earth forever....assuming you manage to crawl your way out of hell. To my estimation.....both Milind & Prachi would be heading up to heaven purely because they are good souls....giving them mukti (salvation) from Ayesha forever.... leaving her to roam the earth by herself for all time. Ghosts can't move upwards and onwards....they can only remain on earth or fall back down to hell!!! 👏

BTW: According to this site.....you also need to have defeated a whole bunch of dead people in hell to be able to crawl back on earth to wander around as a ghost....One of Ayesha's dialogues did mention something about 'what all she had to do to come back as a ghost'......could explain the 6 year gap!
😆😆😆
But the worst thing will be for Sumonto, first a fake father and now will be losing both parents. Poor Kid....to be left to Alaap & Sukruti as guardians!!
