 If luck plays a crucial part in an actor's career, Harman Baweja has the luck of the devil. He is having a tough time finding a strong foothold in the Hindi film industry after his debut film Love Story 2050 followed by his latest release Victory failed to do well at the box-office.As a result, the actor was on the brink of losing out on a plum project- Ashutosh Gowariker's What's Your Rashee? Harman has been desperately looking for a hit and things would have taken a turn for the worse if he was replaced by a more saleable actor in What's Your Rashee? The buzz is that after the failure of Victory, producer Ronnie Screwvala of UTV and Ashutosh had considered getting another actor in place of Harman. A source close to the Bawejas said, "Recently, Ronnie Screwvala had lengthy discussions with Ashutosh if it was feasible to take another actor in place of Harman." In fact, Ronnie was reluctant about getting Harman on board even before the film went on the floors. "Ashutosh had managed to convince Ronnie that Harman was an apt choice for the lead role. Also with Priyanka Chopra and Harman being linked romantically at that time, they agreed that it would prove advantageous for the film," said the source. However, Priyanka called off her relationship with Harman while the film was still in the making. The two are now working on What's Your Rashee? as any two professional actors would. "After the failure of Victory, Ronnie felt that his worst fears might come true," added the source. According to our source, UTV was also ready to reinvest in order to reshoot portions of the film, which they had already shot with Harman. "What's Your Rashee? is nearly 50 per cent complete but UTV had no problem starting the film once again with another actor," said our source. When the Bawejas learnt about Harman's likely ouster, Harman's father Harry Baweja and sister Rowena had a closed-door meeting with Ronnie pleading with him to not replace Harman. "During the meeting, Ronnie raised doubts over Harman's acting abilities. But Harry and Rowena managed to convince Ronnie to let Harman be part of the film. After this meeting, Harman was asked to take acting lessons from a teacher named Kamaal," added the source. We contacted Ronnie Screwvala who said: "Do you just wake up every morning and make up all this s***? And how do you all get sleep (after) making up such rubbish. Now if you have the guts quote this word-for-word. Guess not." Sunita Gowariker, who is also the producer of What's Your Rashee?, was far more cordial. She said, "There has been no discussion with UTV on the subject of replacing Harman. We haven't even thought about it. Harman was, is and continues to be our choice because he is apt for the role. We are going to do the film with Harman in the lead irrespective of him giving hits or flops." |
