Are Old Cricketeers indespensable?

In cricket I have observed that old players keep their place in the Indian team whenever there are test matches and ODI's also. Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehvag and the like have made a permanent reservation in the Indian team. In one series Tendulkar shines and then in three or four others he is an utter failure. Same happens with Sehvag also. In the bargain India loses very badly against any team, be it Australia, Bangla Desh, Pakistan or any other. New players are not given proper chance to represent India in international matches. Would be nice to see younger generation playing for India instead of letting the old players with their tummies represent India. What the old players have done is excellent job, but it is high time they retire.

At last some sports !!
I thought people here didn't know what the term means šŸ˜†

But disappointed dude 😭
Specially with the cricketers you have decided to target
and
Specially when India is doing so well !!

Tendulkar and Sehwag both crossed 1000 runs in tests last year at a healthy average,
and both played some really match winning knocks.
Same is the case with ODIs ,
indeed, i doubt any youngster would also think that he is capable to replace these two !!

(Btw , if you want to bring the point up that if instead of Sachin , someone else had been given 3 wrong
decisions, he would not have been picked for the rest of the matches,
i'll say
Sachin through his consistent performance for so long deserves these chances,
would you say the same of any other player ??
and both Sachin and Sehwag bring more to the team than just their cricketing skill,
their minds are indispensable in the dressing room )

Moreover ,
the question
"Are Old Cricketers indespensable?"
is well...........not correct !!

A better version would have been
"Are Senior Cricketers indespensable?"

However , here also i'll say that yes they are indespensable ,
at least thats what history shows !!

Moving on from Sehwag and Tendulkar to Ganguly , Dravid and Laxman ->

Ganguly was a fighter in the true sense .
He always had to prove himself to stay in the side as he was no one's favourite(seemingly)
but he did prove himself , especially when not much was expected from him.

Dravid had had no slump of form till 2006 ,
and had an average of 59 till then , ahead of all his contemporaries,
since then even though he has fallen down ,
and has had a remarkable slump of form,
he is now coming back to form ,
but yes even if he was indeed sacked,
not a lot of eyebrows would have been raised.
However , the fact is the solidity he brings at No 3 , is not found in any other batsman,
so you have to persist with him ,
and give him more chances than others.

Now talking about Laxman , he is simply a classy player,
who himself deserves more chances than he got !!šŸ˜›

Talking of bowlers,
Kumble was a great ,
and
Zaheer is in his finest form.

I guess senior players of India are indespensable after all !!

However,
yes it is true that new players are not always given the chances that they might deserve,
but the fact is ,
at least now,
that everybody is performing so well that until you repeatedly knock at the selectors' door,
finding a place in the indian team for more than a series or something is very tough.

In a way what you are pointing out is true, I would say senior players should have a different performance goals, like maintaining a certain average in 3 matches or a break, unless form is back or something.
For new lot, who is stopping... prove your worth and get a spot. Also since oldies are inconsistent, can anyone give 100% assurance that new joinees will be consistent?
As long as oldies are better then 16 players and prove thier worth in trials /selections, retire or not should be thier own personal choice.

I do not intend saying that they are not good, but the new players are not given any chance in the bargina. A country of 100billion certainly should give chance to fresh talent. Winning or losing is part of sports. Sachin and Sehwag have given India its glory in cricket on one hand, and on the other hand see what they did in the Indian team during the world cup. So more than the deportive spirit there must be something more to it. Sachin and Sehwag and Ganguly are good players no doubt, but we are putting too many eggs in one bag always when there is team selection. New talent should be given an opportunity.

Senior players shd retire on their own depending on their fitness and contribution to the team. New players are not given chances more becoz of the regional politics ruling team selection but slowly it too will wane out. McGrath was an exemplary player to have played for so longšŸ‘. Actually now the game requires more swiftness and higher fitness levels so those who can cope up will stay.
ashoka_was_king > You want Sehwag to retire?😲 but he is young and plays well. Unlike others he is a great hitter, has high strike rate and wins game for IndiašŸ˜›

You are right! Lavanya... regional politics or politics in general has been part parcel for decades nothing that just creeped up but whoever is exceptional get a spot. Basically politics part cann't be changed overnite all the new comers can do is overcome it by perfroming exceptionally well. @McGrath I agree and also Wasim... till end of his career he kept it together...

Thanks Anshuman. Its indeed sad that so many deserving players from state tournaments and even Ranji dont even get selected or a chance to play in the India Squad. Certain states enjoy the privileges and mint money. We are seeing change and hope with 20-20 games all this changes for the better. Oh yes Wasim Bhai, how cld I forget him? He too was brilliant.
