Leave all the power-action and popcorn romance for the bhaiyas, Sunny and Bobby. This DD (read: Different Deol) is indeed proving to be a hero...zara hatke. Well, we all love to be different, but to take on the challenge of reinventing a classic like Devdas in the modern day context, phew ... that needs a lot of guts, no? Though Anurag Kashyap has directed Abhay Deol's next, Dev D, the credit for the concept of the film goes to none other than the odd one in the Deol-pack.
Apparently while reading Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's Devdas, Abhay came up with the idea of adapting the novel in the modern-day scenario. Infact, the story line of the film was also developed by Abhay. Talking to us in New York (where he's learning more about filmmaking), he confirms, "Yes, I came up with the concept. For a long time I'd been thinking about it. Basically I was inspired by the novel 'Devdas'. It is an iconic subject, and I thought that modernizing it would be interesting. It bridges the gap between generations. It is timeless in that sense. Anurag Kashyap is known for his off-beat films, so I narrated the concept to him. He went quiet for half an hour, completely lost while visualizing the film. Then he decided to make it." Hey denim-clad-Devdas, what about a concept that will bring all the Deols together. Socha hai kya?
