I don't think they're splitting any votes. Yashita's not actually Marathi, therefore Marhashtra votes are not going towards her, they're going towards Vaishali. Yashita is a Punjabi girl who lives in Mumbai, so she just lives in Marhashtra for name's sake. Either way, Vaishali is the more deserving of the two.

The Mumbai votes might get split for the two - remember that in one episode, the Marathi autorickshaw drivers were supporting Yashita while the Marathi market sellers were supporting Vaishali - two of the major groups to bring votes in from Mumbai... It also points to the fact that there are several people who care about the location the singer is from rather than the state they are from or the language they speak - here Vaishali is Maharashtrian and speaks Marathi but Yashita doesnt but it doesnt make any difference to many locals there...

When it comes to the UP-Punjab area, Yashita might bag more votes than Vaishali as she is originally from that region... Only Zee knows who will win or to say it better, whom do they want to win....
