I saw a variation on this in the 1976 film Bajrangbali on dailymotion.com. Slight variation on your account - Sulochana (played here by Jayashri Gadkar, Kaushalya-mata in the Ramanand Sagar Ramayan) herself wanted Ravan to get her Meghnad's head, but Ravan insisted on getting Lakshman's head instead. Then she asked Mandodari, who gave her permission. For rest of the story, see this:

Since the pre-cap to Monday's episode shows Meghnad's arms being cut off, they may show it, although I think it's needlessly grizzly, particularly given that neiter Valmiki nor Tulsidas narrate that as happening. All that was cut off was Meghnad's head with the Indrastra.
