Deepika Padukone celebrates her 23rd birthday today (5 January,2009). Her only wish is to spend it with beau Ranbir Kapoor and his family. "He was slightly unwell with a bit of fever. But I am sure he will be okay for my birthday," she says, laughing.

Deepika says the last year has been her most fulfilling year, personally and professionally. "To think last year at this time I was shooting for Bachna Ae Haseeno with Ranbir?time flies so fast," she says, with a smile. It was on the sets of this film that love blossomed for the inseparable love birds.

This year too Deepika has a lot to look forward to. "In two week's time my film with Akshay Kumar, Chandni Chowk to China, releases and I am most excited about it," she says. "I am truly lucky to have managed to get a double role yet again in this film!"
Also, there is Shah Rukh Khan's Billu Barber, where she has done a cameo for free. "I don't know why such a big issue is being made of me doing it for free. The fact is I would do anything for SRK free. Even personally if he needs any help from me at any point of time, I will be there to extend it to him without asking a single question. I owe that much to him. How can I ever forget that he gave me the most rocking debut! SRK is special," she says.

When asked if SRK had offered her money, Deepika states, "That's something too personal to discuss. I consider Gauri and the Red Chillies team as personal friends."
Deepika says she still has a lot to achieve, especially when compared with the seniors in the industry. "Who am I to even compare my achievements with other seniors in the field? I have so much more to do."

and about the money thing, are they asking about the Billu Barber thing again? and I agree. It shouldn't be made into such a big deal. All these girls did it out of respect and love for the khan. 😳😃

and well the media can go to hell now as ranbir-deepika are still together and this news puts a end to all rumours....

and about the money issues i agree with deepika its very personal....

Happy Birthday Deepika!

She has one of the most striking faces we've seen on the silver screen recently. And at only 21 she managed to make her mark in Bollywood. Critics are even going as far as calling her the next best thing. All this before she's even turned 23! We trace her eventful journey into the limelight as Deepika Padukone brings in her birthday.

Born in Denmark on January 5, 1986 to badminton ace Prakash Padukone and his wife Ujjala, Deepika moved to Bangalore when she was a year old. She attended Sophia High School and Mount Carmel College in Bangalore. She was a state level badminton player during her school days.

Leggy lass Deepika has gorgeous long hair, a beautiful face with perfect features like full lips, a sharp nose, doe-shaped eyes and high cheekbones. So it was no surprise that modeling offers beckoned when she was in college. The former supermodel has walked the ramp at the Lakme and Wills India Fashion Week and for designers like Rohit Bal, Manish Malhotra, Vikram Phadnis, Rocky S and Tarun Tahiliani among others. She has graced the covers of high-end magazines like Elle, Vogue, L'Officiel, Hello!, Cosmopolitan and Femina. She shot to fame internationally when Maybelline cosmetics made her their brand ambassador after spotting her on the Kingfisher Calendar in 2006.

After becoming a popular face on the modelling and commercial (she has done ads for Liril and Close Up) circuit, she turned her eyes on Bollywood and landed a dream debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om. The film was a blockbuster and Deepika's performance as elegant 1970's superstar Shantipriya and a bubbly present day SRK fan was appreciated along with her dancing skills. She swept up all the awards in the best debut category. After her debut film, she was seen as the smart and sexy taxi driver Gayatri alongside real life beau Ranbir Kapoor in YRF's Bachna Ae Haseeno which was a decent hit. She also trained hard in Jujitsu, a type of Martial Arts, for highly-anticipated Kung Fu comedy Chandni Chowk to China in which she plays an Indo-Chinese princess and a salesgirl opposite superstar Akshay Kumar.

Being as hot as she is, she obviously had a lot of boys vying for her attention. Deepika has an impressive list of boyfriends - models Upen Patel, Muzammil Ibrahim and Nihar Pandya. She then moved on to cricketer Yuvraj Singh before she hit the jackpot when she snagged the hottest bachelor in town: Ranbir Kapoor.

The two got close during the making of Bachna ae Haseeno in Australia. They got together in February 2008 during the Filmfare awards ceremony where they both won the best debut awards and have been inseparable ever since. They make a picture perfect couple and are so madly in love that Deepika has bought an apartment which is a stone's throw away from Ranbir's residence in Bandra.
