BILLU BARBER is all set to hit the screens coming Februray. Remake of the Malayalam super-hit, KADHA PARAYUMBOL, the Priyadarshan directed BILLU BARBER has been produced by Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment. This is for the first time the maverick filmmaker Priyadarshan and Superstar Shah Rukh Khan have worked together.

BILLU BARBER has Irrfan Khan playing the title role and Shah Rukh Khan essaying an extended guest appearance (the one essayed by Mammootty in the original), a role of about 45 minutes and also shaking his legs in 2-3 item numbers with his favourite ladies Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. Apart from Irrfan Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, the film also stars Lara Dutta who'll be seen playing Irrfan's wife in the movie. Other cast includes Om Puri, Asrani and Rajpal Yadav.

The music of the film is composed by Pritam with lyrics from Gulzar.

Synopsis:

Billu's (Irrfan Khan) life is changed when a film unit arrives at his village for shooting a movie. To Billu's surprise, the star of the movie is none other than Sahil Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) who was Billu's old school friend. Instantly, Billu becomes prominent man in the village and attains fame and respect. Villagers urge him to make acquaintance with the superstar, but Billu is intimidated by his friend's superstar status. He thinks that Sahil would never acknowledge his friendship with a barber. Billu strives to meet the star but is unsuccessful. Finally, he fails after lots of struggle.

People suspect that Billu is fibbing in order to gain fame and start offending him. Billu's family and children become apprehensive about his claim. In the end, for an invited school function, the star reveals his past. He tells the audience that in his school days he had a friend who always stood by him in his hardships. He tells how much the friend helped him by providing food when he was hungry, provided clothes when he did not having any. He tells that the friend gave him the money to join acting by selling his ancestral ear ring and that friend happens to be Billu. At that time the people recognize about Billu and the movie happily ends.

Confirmed that its remake of Malyalam film

Sreenivasan talks about his malyalam film 'Kadha Parayumbol' being remade in Tamil with Rajnikanth and Hindi with SRK.

Now, your film is going to be remade in Hindi as well. Who is likely to play the superstar in that?

Most probably it is going to be Shah Rukh Khan. Priyan has finished the preliminary discussions with Shah Rukh Khan.

Will Priyadarshan stick to the original script?

Yesterday Priyan had a discussion with me after Shah Rukh Khan expressed the opinion that it would be better if his role were extended a bit. Priyan wanted my view on that.

Storyline

Kadha Parayumbol is one of the finest films made in Malayalam in recent times.

The story is scripted by Sreenivasan, one of the finest script writers not only in Kerala but in India itself.

Kadha Parayumbol is the story of a barber in a village in Kerala whose classmate happens to be a super star in Kerala. What happens in the life of the barber when the super star and his team come to his village to shoot a film is the story of the film. Mammootty plays the super star and Sreenivasan is the barber. Meena plays the barber's wife.

It is almost certain that K Balachander's Kavithalaya has bought the rights from Sreenivasan and the Tamil version of Kadha Parayumbol is going to be Super Star Rajnikanth's next film, a quickie before he starts Shankar's Robot.

Priyan-SRK together!

Chennai based hotshot Bollywood director Priyadarshan is going to direct a film with Shah Rukh Khan, the badshah of Indian movies. Shah Rukh's 'Red Chillies Entertainment' will produce the film and the superstar will play himself in the film, which will start rolling by July.

Sify.com understands that Priyadarshan is going to make a remake in Hindi of the smash Malayalam super hit Katha Parayumbol. The film is also being remade in Tamil by P Vasu as Kuselan with Superstar Rajnikanth doing the role made famous by Mammootty in the original.

Priyan had narrated the story line to SRK last week in Mumbai and showed him the original, which impressed him. King Khan was bowled over by Sreenivasan's and Mammootty's characters in the film and told Priyan that his company Red Chillies would produce the film, after he completed Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bane Di Jodi.

SRK is very particular that Priyan should not dilute the original Katha Parayumbol and should be faithful to it. Priyan is a master at remaking Malayalam hits into Hindi without spoiling the essence of the original.
The buzz is that Priyan is trying to rope in Irrfan Khan to do the role done by Sreenivasan in Malayalam and what Pasupathi is doing in Tamil. The rest of the star cast and other details are being worked out.

A serious fight for a comedy

Rani Mukherji and Vidya Balan are vying to play the lead in SRK's next

It's a tough fight between Rani Mukherji and Vidya Balan, and a tough call for Shah Rukh Khan. A few days back we had reported that SRK and Priyadarshan will work together on a film where SRK will play himself. It is for this film that SRK is finalising his leading lady and he has to choose between the two, Rani Mukherji and Vidya Balan.

It is going to be exciting to see who finally bags the project. Rani and SRK have appeared together in numerous films and share a wonderful chemistry, whereas Vidya Balan, in turn, has worked with director Priyadarshan in Bhool Bhulaiya and shares a great rapport with him. SRK is playing himself in the feature. In a love story to be produced by his banner, Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by the King of comedies, the project will also see these two talents collaborate for the first time.

Meanwhile, Irrfan Khan has already been signed in to play a pivotal role in the film. While SRK is in the process of finalising his lead actress, he is also scouting for two actresses to play important characters in the film.

The film is scheduled to go on the floors in April and will be complete by August 2008. Priyadarshan had told us earlier, "I am looking forward to the film and working with SRK.

I'm excited about this film and am looking forward to working with Shah Rukh. I'm completing Mere Baap Pehele Aap with Akshaye Khanna."

SRK and Priyadarshan will come together for the first time to create a laugh riot along with Irrfan Khan and, er, Rani or Vidya. It won't be very funny for the one who doesn't bag it though. We'll keep you posted.

Rani or Vidya for SRK?

SRK is finalising his leading lady for the comedy he is working on with Priyadarshan and he has tough task choosing between Rani Mukherji and Vidya Balan.

Rani and SRK share a great working relationship while Vidya Balan, who was seen in Bhool Bhulaiya, gets along very well with the director.

SRK is playing himself in this love story to be produced by Red Chillies Entertainment. This will be SRK and Priyadarshan's first film together.

"I'm excited about this film and am looking forward to working with Shah Rukh," the director was quoted as saying in a tabloid.

Irrfan Khan has already been signed on to play a major role in the film. SRK is also hunting for two other actresses for important roles in the film.

Shah Rukh Khan will soon be seen playing himself on the big screen. And while he may not enjoy the stupendous amount of screen time that he did in Om Shanti Om, King Khan ain't complaining. It turns out he his is playing a cameo, as himself in the feature. In a love story to be produced by his very own banner Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by the King of comedies, the project will also see these two talents collaborate for the first time.

When contacted Priyadarshan about this, he said, "Yes, Shah Rukh and I are working together on a film. It will be a very different genre from what I've done in the past, or from what SRK has done in the past."

Apparently, SRK is not going to take the centre stage in this one or so it seems as he will be appearing in the film only around the interval. Also, in a character we've never seen him before: Shah Rukh Khan playing Shah Rukh Khan. Priyadarshan has been given strict instructions by SRK not to divulge any details yet regarding the project.

However on probing a little further Priyadarshan said, "There will be more actors apart from SRK. Yes, he will appear in the film only by the interval. We are looking at many actors to portray the characters in the film but nothing has been finalised yet. We are in the process of finalising the cast and the film will go on floors soon."

The film will be shot and is scheduled to complete by August 2008. "I am looking forward to the film and working with SRK. This film is something I'm excited about, particularly because of him. Presently I'm completing Mere Baap Pehele Aap with Akshay Khanna."

Amisha Patel moves into the big league with Priyadarshan's latest film, Billo Barber. The Shah Rukh Khan-Irrfan Khan starrer is a remake of the Malayalam film, Katha Parayumbol. It revolves around a humble village barber (Irrfan) and his superstar friend (SRK). Amisha plays the barber's wife and also shares substantial screen space with Shah Rukh. It's almost a dream come true for the chirpy actress who is known for gushing over SRK, say industry sources.

A source close to Amisha says, "Amisha has made a blink-and-a-miss appearance in Om Shanti Om alongside Shah Rukh. Now she has a full-fledged role in Billo Barber. Naturally, she is very excited."

After having broken up with filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, the actress seems to be concentrating hard on her career and is breezing in and out of high-profile filmi meetings. The source adds, "Amisha is trying to resurrect her flagging career and get her hands on a few big films this year. Also, she is very happy with her present industrialist boyfriend Kanav, who keeps motivating her."

Amisha sure has her hands full with a new boyfriend and a new film with Shah Rukh.

Ameesha to sizzle again with top stars

IT SEEMS like Ameesha Patel is back after a hiatus. The Gujarati babe, who was last seen in several miniscule roles, has been paired opposite several top stars again, after her break up with Vikram Bhatt. Of late, she has also been linked to Kanav Puri, with whom she has reportedly got married. For starters, Ameesha has Sanjay Dutt's home production Chatur Singh Two Star in her kitty. The film directed by Ajay Chandhok, is being touted as a fun- filled comedy. " The film is about a detective played by Sanju and there are many hilarious situations in the movie," says Ameesha about her upcoming venture, which goes on the floors in two months. Ameesha also has Billoo Barber with Shah Rukh Khan — her first film with SRK and it has put her on cloud nine. Also coming up is Kunal Kohli's untitled venture with Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji, in which she has an important albeit small role. But the lady is sure about the attention the movie will attract due to the Yashraj connection. Well, Ameesha seems to be climbing the ladders of stardom again.

Amisha Patel in SRK's next

Sometime ago news was that the actress was upset with the filmmaker, but now we hear that she was instead upset with a music company and had nothing against Priyan.

So considering the good vibes and all that, Priyan has roped her in his next, which will indeed be produced by Shah Rukh Khan.

Amu, however, will be casted opposite Irrfan in this one! Looks like luck is at last shining on this girl who seemed to have lost it - the luck, we mean, some time ago!
