Story, Music, sometimes starcast, how the story is portrayed.........A story might be good.........but if director dont portray it well it wil not work.........

What makes me go to watch a film is the songs, the cast and some basic storyline.( Also I look out for directors eg my logic is that if Lagaan or Swades was good then so will Jodha Akbar or if Kabhi ALvida Na kehna was good so will Dostana)

well written script, effective screenplay,entertaining/engrossing story, rememberable songs, strong cast ( ie people prefer to wtch a srk/amir/shahid/akshay movie in the theater compared to a new actor or say someone like fardeen khan,zayed khan etc.) and brilliant acting

Music is good but I don't want to watch a movie just for the music, I can buy the cd and listen to it.

For me, it depends on what gendre the movie is.

If it's a comedy movie
, it better make me laugh and have a very funny story. For example movies like Hungama and Golmaal returns have made me laugh too much that I loved those movies.

Love story movies: It's basically about the actors making me believe that it's their love story in the movie. If an actor makes you feel what they are feeling in the movie. That's a great movie right there because it's passion.

Drama or suspense: Again it's about the actors making you believe in the story. I love it when the actors are very natural with drama type of roles. For example, Konkona in 15 park avenue, she was so natural that you swear it was her real life story that she was telling in the movie.

i totally believe that the biggest factor that makes a movie become a hit (how many go to theatres, im not saying by how gud its is, cuz a movie that is great can also be a flop , doesnt mean its not a great film if its a flop)
the biggest factor is the promos of the film, if they dont promote the film in a gud way how r ppl gunna go watch it in thatres. for example, app ka suroor, they made that film have soo interesting promos, trailers, that i wanted to go watch it in theatres, but wen i watched it , it was an ok film.

It has to be the performance. Story and script come next but like someone mentioned earlier a simple story if narrated beautifully can work wonders case in pt Jab we met.

I generally wait for reviews before watching any film so star cast hardly makes a difference to me.
