Bollywood Razzies Awards 2008

Good evening Bollywood fans! Once again we come together at the end of the year to acknowledge the best of the...uhh lets correct that, we come together to acknowledge the worst that occurred in Bollywood over the last year. Most awards congratulate the best that occurred over 2008, but we want to be hatke and give recognition to those who didn't do so well during year. So grab a seat and enjoy as we give you the Bollywood Razzies Awards for 2008!

Worst Debut
Mimoh Chakraborty

The year saw a whole bunch of newcomers enter into Bollywood in 2008 but the award for worst debut has to go to Mimoh Chakraborty for his film Jimmy. His launch into Bollywood was initially eagerly awaited. After all, he is the son of the great veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty whose dancing and acting ways have always been admired. However, things took a sour turn when Mimoh's launch pad was declared a dud at the box office and more over his acting skills were given a thumbs down. They tried and tried to make him look like a hero but his chubbiness was laughed at as well as the poor production value of the movie. He may not win any awards for giving the best performance, so for now he can take the Razzie for the Worst Debut in 2008.

Worst On-Screen Couple
Himesh Reshammiya and Shweta Kumar in Karzzzz

Himesh Reshammiya should honestly stick to his nasal singing instead of acting on screen with girls younger than half his age and failing to create any chemistry. The age difference between him and his new muse Shweta Kumar was clear when the two attempted to hold hands or even come close to acting intimate. In fact it was so cold and thanda, audiences could see it was forced by the director. While we're sure Himesh will be back with another youngin', for this year, they both can happily claim the award for the Worst On-Screen Couple of 2008.

Worst Soundtrack
Kidnap (excluding 'Mit Jaaye')

Pritam originally is at his best with most of his work but Kidnap seemed a bit rushed and boring. Other not-so-exciting numbers in the album included 'Hey Ya', 'Mausam' and 'Haanji'. The music seemed repetitive and even Minisha Lamba's keen exposure couldn't help to save the album. With 'Mit Jaaye' being the saving grace of the album, the Razzie for the Worst Soundtrack of 2008 goes to Kidnap.

Worst Lyrics
'Tandoori Night' – Karzzzz

It really is a sad day in Indian cinema when lyricists write words to songs that include the words "Tak-tananana Tandoori nights." First of all, it makes no sense to sing about Tandoori Nights and secondly, the song continues on to compare love with Tandoori Nights. If that wasn't bad enough, the song goes on to talk about being "tanha" (alone) on a Tandoori Night...erm. Before we end, one question: with all the Tandoori in the world in one song, how can anyone be lonely? Anyway, this lame song grabs the award for Worst Lyrics in 2008. We also have to award an honorable mention to all the stupid English lyrics that have been popping up and ruining perfectly good songs!

Worst Choreography
'Soniye Ve' – Kismet Konnection

Most wedding songs are always an instant hit with the audiences as they all decide to dance to it at their friends' upcoming weddings. However, even Shahid Kapur couldn't save the only wedding number in Kismet Konnection. The choreographer decided to let Vidya hang around on the sidelines, which was probably a good idea since the girl isn't exactly light on her feet. Overdone steps, a boring set and an even more draggy song, the award for Worst Choreography of 2008 goes to 'Soniye Ve'.

Worst Film
Tashan

When translated, tashan means "style." Unfortunately, the flick proved to be anything but stylish and sunk quickly at the box office. Kareena Kapoor's bikini couldn't help the film nor could Akshay Kumar's Midas touch. In fact, Bebo was called anorexic, Saif deemed "uncool" and Anil Kapoor's accent went unappreciated. There was also nothing impressive about the screenplay which made the audiences scratch their heads and try to figure out what exactly the movie was about. Most of the time, Yashraj song picturization helps to pick up some dinero at the box office, however, even the foreign locales couldn't help this un-stylish flick beat the attitude. With much tashan, we do give this year's Razzie award for the Worst Movie of the year to Tashan.

Worst Actress
Shweta Kumar – Karzzzz

Quite honestly, there were no expectations of director-producer Inder Kumar's daughter and she proved that she really does need a couple of acting lessons to help her make a mark in this competitive industry. Her blank expressions and disturbed facial expressions clearly showed her uneasiness and amateurish acting skills. We're not sure if her apprehension was because of her co-star Himesh Reshammiya and his "rock star" status or because she knew that the movie was headed towards flop-dom. Either way, a few classes in acting and perhaps a dancing class or two will help her gain some confidence. Until then, she can keep her Razzie award for the Worst Actress in 2008 on her mantle piece.

Worst Actor
Himesh Reshammiya – Karzzzz

An actor can act and a singer can sing, but when the two attempt to mesh, what you get is Himesh Reshammiya – a big bag of gunk. Aap Ka Suroor was obviously a fluke as his performance in Karzzzz was nothing less than garbage. He attempted to keep up to his rock star persona, undoing a few extra buttons to flaunt his chest and throwing out the cap for a long hair look, but that didn't help him become or come close to enacting Rishi Kapoor in this flop remake. His singing may fetch him many accolades, but for now, his acting will only get him this years Razzie award for the Worst Actor in 2008.

And that's all folks! The Bollywood Razzies Awards have come to an end for this year. But not to worry, we'll be back next year in great pomp and style to award the worst of the worst in 2009!
