The television industry, with its long hours, closeted sets and beautiful people, has long been Cupid's playground. Many TV actors have found their soulmates on their sets — Ram Kapoor and Gautami Gadgil, Arjun Punj and Gurdeep Kohli, Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan....And the latest couple to sign up for the love-set-match club are Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonerjee.
Gurmeet and Debina are said to have a raging affair going on the sets of Ramayan (NDTV Imagine). The buzz now is that this on-screen Ram and Sita have become inseparable even in real life. Tongues are wagging that they are now staying together in Versova.
Apparently love bloomed for the couple on the sets of an earlier serial they were working together in. Debina, who is from Kolkata, and Gurmeet who hails from Madhya Pradesh, first met while working in a mythological fantasy called Mayavi that aired on a South Indian channel. Their friendship turned to love.
"We used to see them often because they even jogged together. Later, when they were selected for the role of Ram and Sita in Ramayan, it gave them more time to spend together. The latest is that they are staying together in Versova. Sometimes if you call Gurmeet, Debina answers the phone," says our source.
Though the production house — Sagar Arts — is trying to keep their affair under wraps, it's hardly something that's hidden from everyone on the sets. Says a unit member, "Whenever Gurmeet and Debina are shooting for Ramayan, they are always together. From the vanity van, to sharing food from the same plate on the sets, they are just inseparable. The creative heads are happy that their real life romance might just enhance their on-screen chemistry."
When After Hours got in touch with Gurmeet, he initially tried to dodge the question. But soon he admitted, "Yes, we are a couple. We met during the making of Mayavi. We have been together since."
Gurmeet added, "We are together most of the time, thanks to Ramayan which is a daily soap. To top it all, we are playing the jodi which every couple in India aspires to be. We've been married on-screen and have to behave as husband and wife — on-screen, of course. It's a feeling I find very close to my heart," he gushed.
