John paid Rs 70,000 for typhoid treatment

John Abraham was admitted to Lilavati Hospital on Dec 6 after taking ill with typhoid but will be discharged today

Getting treated for typhoid, normally costs anywhere between Rs 3,000 and Rs 6,000, but Bollywood hunk John Abraham paid Rs 70,000 for the same. And that doesn't include the price of a week-long stay at Lilavati, which cost him Rs 62,000.

According to the hospital sources, the actor is fine now and will be discharged today. Abraham was admitted to the super deluxe room on the 11th floor, on December 6, after taking ill with viral fever during the filming of his film Kabul Express in Kabul.

"Doctors at Lilavati said that he had typhoid," a hospital spokesperson said. The expenditure excludes charges he incurred on medication and treatment before his admission at the hospital.

A super deluxe room at Lilavati costs Rs 5,000 per day. "Though he was admitted only late evening on December 6, as per hospital norms, he will be charged for a week," a hospital source said. This means accommodation charges add up to Rs 40,000.

Dr Arun Shah, who treated him at the hospital, said Abraham underwent routine blood tests, urine tests, stool tests, X-ray (chest) and CT scan (chest) for typhoid diagnosis during his hospital stay. As per the hospital brochure, the total expenditure works out to Rs 22,860.

(Rs 1,500) and at least six routine visits thereafter, which works out to Rs 7,200. Dr Shah revealed that the star was advised rest for at least 10 days.

We have put him on medication for two weeks," he said adding that the star would arrive at the hospital for a follow-up 10 days later. Doctors we spoke to said the medication consisted of a variety of antibiotics. A complete course costs around Rs 4,000.
