Suniel Shetty surrenders in Chandigarh court

Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty surrendered before a court in Chandigarh on Tuesday in a case relating to a dishonoured cheque. He was immediately granted bail.

The actor surrendered before the court after non-bailable warrants were issued against him Nov 19.

The case against Shetty was filed by businessman Subhash Gulati, owner of a well-known shop, Empire Stores, in Sector 17 here. This came after Gulati said that a cheque of ten lakhs issued by Hyundai India Telecom Limited, a company in which Shetty was a director, in 2005 had bounced due to insufficient funds.

The actor had earlier got proceedings of the trial court stayed by the Punjab and Haryana high court. The stay, however, was vacated later by the high court and it asked Shetty to appear before the trial court. Shetty's plea for personal exemption from court hearing was rejected by the court.

He has been asked to again appear before the court Dec 23,2008.
